General Target Prices

Crumbs - the most realistic and tempting prices so far. Slightly ironic that the image they use is the best of the photoshop jobs - and to my eyes looks great.

God, that sortof discount already. Think i'd have prefered lower list prices with little or no discount. Least that's less likely to hammer residual values - something i thought Fiat/Alfa was trying to improve

You're right of course. They should have just put lower retail prices
in the 1st place.

The problem is that lower retail prices for the Panda would make the 500 look uncompetitive & they likely don't want Joe & Jill Public to realise how much of a price premium they're paying for style & fashionability.

I quite agree with you. IMO the new Panda blurs things a little bit as it should attract more people who would possibly be looking at a 500 as well.

As a result, it is no surprise to me that the new Panda pricing is not a million miles away from the 500. Whether that's a good plan or not remains to be seen...

Yeah i guess that could be what Fiat had to weigh-up:

A)Higher list price & discounts if you look/ask or

B)Lower list prices & no discounts on the Panda but potential 500 owners asking for thousands off a 500 to bring it closer to Panda price.

Not something Fiat would have had to weigh-up before i'd imagine, since all Fiats are usually expected to be discounted :p

Test drove twin air lounge a month or so ago at my nearest dealers as got the go ahead to purchase a sub £14k company car. Company already has a 2010 1.1 Eco Active as a pool car and my ex-wife used to have a 100HP, and with low emissions, the TA makes it very cheap from a Benefit-In-Kind perspective.

Looks wise I think it'll be a grower but in terms of overall quality, it's a major step forward in all areas and the TA engine is very keen, suiting the character of the car well.

Then came to spec it up - came to a list price of £13.7k. Asked what discount they could offer, given we were purchasing the car outright - salesman looked at me as if I was joking, realised I wasn't and said they might be able to knock £100 off!! Further more as there was limited stock in the country, I'd have to wait 16 weeks for the privilege.

Walked over the road to the Chrysler dealer opposite to look at the Panda-in-Drag (ie Ypilson). Whole different experience, friendly knowledgeable salesman, gave me the keys to TA SE version and said take for a long test drive on my own (unlike the Fiat guys who had to accompany me and limit the drive to 5 miles!).

Looks wise it's a very marmite but very well finished inside and unsurprisingly drives identically to the new panda. Lots of standard items that are extras on the panda. Spec'ed up a car which had more kit on it than the Panda I had just been quoted for and it came to a list price of £14k. Explained my situation and was immediately offered 20% off, delivery in 2 weeks. Did the deal there and then.

I think Fiat seriously need to look it's dealer network and given the new Panda is priced so much higher than the outgoing model (placing it in tough competition), they really need to stop treating potential customers like children IMHO.

Sounds like a disappointing experience you had there then, made even worse by the fact your experience with the Ypsilon was so much better - it is as you say the same car practically.

As much as I like the new Panda, I think any price above £12k is a lot to bear for it. Appreciate you may well have added a lot of options, but then again stuff like Blue&Me should be standard on the Lounge, end of.

What options were you trying to spec on your Panda?

Oh, just noticed you are down in the South West. Which dealer did you visit?

It was Westovers in Bournemouth. Haven't got the quote anymore but base cost of TA Lounge was around £11,250 but added metallic paint, techno pack, auto climate aircon, 3 rear seats 60/40 split, parking sensors, height adjustable drivers seat, leather steering wheel & gear knob, side airbags, tinted window and spare wheel. It's shocking that some of these are cost options on what is currently 'top-of-the range' trim spec.

The Ypilson I bought had all of these options plus optional 16" Alloys for £12k on the road with the afore mentioned discount. Delivery of the car was delayed by 2 days so without prompting, the dealer included a set of OEM mats and a full tank of fuel as an apology. Can't argue with this for customer service.

Sounds like the Fiat salesman has got abit too used to selling the 500! Fiat have been lucky with the 500, but whilst the new Panda is a good car, for the equipment available as standard, some models look too expensive, particularly the TwinAir & Multijet. I totally think that Blue&Me, 60/40 split rear seats, height adjustable drivers seat, side airbags and a spare wheel should be standard on the Lounge model (spare wheel across the range) - the amount of options that come-up for it on the configurator is enough to make you think you're pricing up a VW & is particularly stingy given how much kit they packed into the old Panda Eleganza (including height adjustable drivers seat and climate control). I don't blame you for walking away.

Did you go for the Ypsilon SE or Limited? The current offers on them make them look very good value, especially when compared to the Panda & 500 which don't look such a luxury product in comparison. I keep looking at the Ypsilon but can't decide if they look girly or not. In some colours i think they do and in others i think they look totally different. Then i look at the price & think 'do i care'! What colour did you go for?

Good to see them shifting a few anyway - i've seen a couple of (positive) owner reviews for them and several people posting pics/comments re purchase of one on Chryslers Facebook page, so the current offers must be making people take notice (y) Interesting you say it drives the same as the Panda, as the likes of Auto Express would have you believe the Panda is a 4 star car & the Ypsilon merely 2 star! I've thought for a while that they write utter rubbish, though.

Went for an SE in stone grey metallic. They look good in white too IMHO but the 2 tone paint jobs do seem to make them a bit more girly. I also went for the lancia-esque 16" alloys rather than the multi-spoke design which also helps making it a tad more butch. Certainly had good feedback from everyone who's seen it in the flesh and been in it so far.

Interior wise it does genuinely seem a plush place, certainly given the fact it's still a 'budget' car, the quality of the materials on the seats and soft feel material on the dash and door inserts is nice. It's also well sound insulted and so at motorway cruising speeds is pretty civil. The central instrument cluster takes a bit of getting used to but adds to the feeling of space inside. With the power delivery of the TA, it certainly drives like a larger car than it actually is. So far all very positive (y)

Aah yeah that colour looks classy in the pics i've seen. I keep looking at Universal Blue and the Red & Black two-tone, but can't decide if the Red & Black would get tiring long-term. If it's the really dark-coloured alloys with semi-circle(ish) cut-outs round the edge that i'm thinking of then totally agree, they look really good :slayer:

It's so weird how some reviews in the press say it's plasticky & noisy & others (including owners) say it's plush & quiet  If it's a quiet motorway companion then i'm interested, coz the MiTo i've test driven (on 16" wheels) was quieter than my Stilo (on 17"s) but still not amazingly quiet once upto 70mph. The old Panda always seemed more refined to me than either MiTo or Stilo so i'm guessing the new one will be even better, but i don't think the Panda is a young guys car really (except 100HP type ones), even though it really appeals to me. I suppose the Ypsilon is somewhere between the MiTo & Panda for 'butchness' lol.

Yep that's the wheels it's got. Having driven many miles in our old 100HP and the companies Panda 1.1 Eco Active, both the Ypsilon & new panda are streets ahead in terms of refinement and cabin noise at speed. Combined with the tall gearing of the TA makes it a very relaxed motorway cruiser. It hasn't lost the fun factor either - I reckon it's about 90% as fun as our 100HP was so as an allround package, I'm very happy with it so far (aside from the expected and well documented fuel consumption from the TA engine!)
