Hello everyone, picked up this lovely thing yesterday with 21k miles on the clock!

Quick question, as it was garaged and only driven a few hundred miles a year for most of its life what perishable bits should I be looking at checking / replacing?

Also, it currently has no stereo. How easy is it to get a hold of those speaker boxes and install one?

This is my first classic car so very exciting! I've had a Lotus and a track car before so am no stranger to fettling (y)

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on a lovely looking Panda. Loads of knowledgeable people on here....but I'm not one of them! I would say little needs doing....timing belt, oil, filter change & that's probably it. I would suggest most important is protecting the car from rust...dinitrol/waxoil the box sections inc doors, sills, thee are lots of access points to get a spray lance in. You should be able to get speakrs second hand if you're patient or put a request out....new stuff still available in Italy eBay.it.

Thanks for the tips, it's only spent 2 years of its life outside and will be garaging it once i can find somewhere to stick my track car so with waxoil should stay pretty fresh. The previous owner just did a minor service but will likely do the timing belt - is it an easy job?

Have ordered those speaker boxes now (although it'll be a shame to use up that nice big glovebox space :( ) but may try and source some better speakers, i have one of those small under seat subwoofers from a previous car too so will try sticking that in to fill out the bottom end.

Problem with getting stuff from Italy is the postage & delay (sometimes)-loads of helpful info on the classic panda first page - shops, tips & ePer along the top bar is invaluable for part numbers - my limited experience is that spares are usually no problem - the ones which can be problematical are those peculiar to RHD models - rear lights, headlamps, cables (maybe), front wiper. If you can locate an old car in a local scrap yard (if they exist any more) that's a bonus.A quick look at the posts on here will point you towards what mods are popular and what issues people have with the car - hope I'm not insulting you with this - am sure if you do have problems & you post on here then you'll be helped.

Greetings.

That's a nice looking Tacchini, a rare sight indeed. Looks in need of a little TLC, but worth the effort, definitely. Hopefully the dreaded tin worm hasn't taken hold.

It's a shame you weren't on here a couple of months back, I had all the kit for fitting the stereo (box, speaker pods and speakers) but no-one wanted them so they went in the bin. Too late now, unfortunately.

I do have a couple of those pattern wheel trims in the back of the garage though, I think. Not sure about the condition, but if they're still there and you want them, have them with my blessing. No use to me now. My Panda went years ago.

Cheers and good luck!

No sign of tin worm but will keep an eye out when treating the underside.

Gutted about the speaker boxes! Ah well.

Where are you based? I'd love to take those trims off you hands if you dont want them (y) ? I'm in Twickenham

Cracking find! got to love a ST and that looks remarkably original and complete. Stereo is dead easy, looks like you have the requisite section under the dash (even that was only an option on some models!) and you should find a permanent live and earth ready behind it - you'll need to wire in an ISO block then you can fit whatever.
What to look at replacing? Just work your way round the car looking at any rubber bits. Most probably won't actually need replacing but you may well make life a bit quieter and more comfortable if you do as they must be getting a bit hard by now. Be extra careful to check the inner driveshaft gaiters, one of those goes and all the oil falls out the gearbox!! Also good practice to go round anywhere you can see an earth point cleaning up. Dodgy earths are a regular source of headaches on these things. After that, just drive it and see what happens.. Have fun.

Thanks for the tips!

As for the stereo, where's the best place to get switched power from to turn the radio off with the car?

Headlight switch is immediately above and ignition switched. Don't take the power supply from it, the switches have a habit of burning out when they or the wiring get past it so no point adding extra load, but you could use it to switch a relay.

Thanks, I'll only be using it for the remote turn on for the head unit / amp so power will still come from the permanent live.

nice.. i have the complete interior from one of those.. the green and purple is my favorite colour combo.i was actually thinking of painting the whole of the inside of Fallout purple and sticking the green seats in it.... i just dont want to damage them!
wish i could get some kind of thick clear seat covers... hmmm

anyhoo welcome to the forum! theres loads of help on here.. ask away! please check out the panda FAQs which is a sticky at the top of the classic panda section.. or just click on the blue "?" shield also on that page. :)

A very easy ignition switched source is from the brake light switch. A piggy back connector on the correct side of the switch and a short wire up into the dash. Saves removing the dash front and also means no hacking of the original wiring.
