Next Panda Adventure.....

Right... Here we go again

I've been talking it over with Alan and as I've had nothing but bills and grief since I came back I need to get the next adventure up and running (even if its going to be ages away before I can afford it) to lift those holiday blues...

I've been talking to some of the guys from FLU (Fiat & Lancia Unlimited) and they have an annual meet up for cars across the country each July. It's called the Fiat Freak Out and I was going to take Juppy to the 07 meet which will be there 24th year.

The catch?

They've not decided where it's going to be yet so it could be anywhere from South Carolina to Pennsylvania..... But no matter where it is it should be accessable from the New York area where I'd hope to ship Juppy.

Anyway, the point of this post is that has anyone had experience of shipping a car to/from the states. Good, Bad, any one you'd recommend or avoid? International breakdown cover? Insurance? Thank god I've got 21 months to sort this cause it make going to Africa seem like a trip to tescos :D

Answers on a postcard please, hehe

Jim

(oh for anyone who's not been here that long, this is Juppy. The 87 4x4 that really should of been in a scrappers about twice by now :D )

shipping a car to america is easy, you drive to portsmouth load your car into a crate, and unload in america. oh, and also i am coming with you, but only if we can go to raleigh, north carolina* (y).

*my old home.

Will this posting beat the last one ? who knows ? but dont forget to put a new exhaust on !!!!!!!!!!!! I await the details with bated breath, Jim. Good luck... can pandas swim ??? (y) (y) (y) :) :) :) :D :D :D

just thinking, part of me wants the trip to be around the carolinas so i can visit my old home, but the other part of me wants to go to pennsylvania so i can go to buffalo. the thing is at least in pennsylvania there is less chance of two gays and a witch being burnt :D

edit - after getting advice from my family, they sdaid that if the people (hicks) find out that Jim and Alan are gay they WILL kill them (been done before) :(

Somehow I don't think that this post will last the 21 mths between now and when we ship out :D

It's just more to get some background and insite.

So far I've banged off a few emails to shipping companies about container use and the costs involved. Ages ago I'd sent off a few mails about entry with a car to the USA and it seems like as a tourist you can bring anything in as long as you take it out again when you go (as long as your visit is less than a year).

...and of course the really important question! Will I be the first person to drive a panda into Times Sq???? :p

Jim

In the USA with the Panda!?!?
That sounds REALLY amazing! More than the trip to Morocco!
I can't help seeing pictures of your Pandas next to a Hummer limo! :D
BTW, I don't think american people even know what a Panda is! :p

I don't think most americans would actaully know what a Fiat was let alone a panda.. (they stopped all sales in 1983 :( )

Chris, I'm trying to see if anyone in the NIIMC would want to take Syliva in the container with Juppy as she proved to be soooo reliable and dependable last time.... :p But I'll keep you posted on that :D

And it's not as crazy as it sounds thou.. It's much less miles than Africa (it ended up over 5500 miles!) and as I'm meeting up with a bunch of fiat nutters who all speak english it should be a lot safer if it all goes horribly wrong....

Jim

You don't need a full 40 foot container, you could just get a 20 footer!

Have you tried Heyn shipping, they're just at the roundabout at the stena terminal.

Theres another place off Edgewater Road, but the name escapes me at the moment.

HTH:)

It's not exclusive or anything...

Thou I've to nip up to canada at some point with alan (I'll let you's work that one out :D ) but other than that I'm happy for anyone to tag along

Jim

See, too many fiat owners with the same name....

We've got this problem with our NIIMC Stu and then theres the Mpv driving FiatForum Stu.....

Your just going to have to be Alan2 I'm afraid (god, that makes you sound like one of the ROV's that found the Titanic :p )

Speaking of sinking boats I had a veg day and was on here or glued to the box and they had this thing about how a ship a week just 'dissapears' for no reason.... (well there is a reason, its giant waves that no one knew existed or Aliens, can't remember now)

I'm going to have to give Juppy swimming lessions before he sets out (Just like Herbie in 'Herbie goes Bannanas') just in case he has to make it to New York under his own steam

Jim As soon as I get Juppy, 146, 127 Sport, E Type Jag and Steves hole sorted, I have a few plans to help Sylvia stick the pace.
I've also been thinking, rather than you taking Juppy and running the risk of getting him damaged, and because I won't be able to go, would you not take Sylvia. If worst senario happens and you lose Sylvia through fire or pestilence theres still a story in it for the club.

I'm working on a story board for Sylvia about her European trip for when she gets to any shows next year. I'm hoping you, Alan or Steve will take her for me because I'm hoping to take a certain little orange number.

Serin. Sorry no you can't have Sylvia.
