General Seat Panda Terra

Well the 'Green Neglected One' has been living up to it's name.

Drawn out of neglect due to one of the other vehicles breaking down it survived about a mile before it too became a victim of electrical nothingness.

That Bullbar/Towbar on the front was suposed to be an amusing addition but has proved to be very useful.

The breakdown was a whole circuit going down. The ignition feed to the electronic coil and the ignition module. And all of them packed up at once.
The quick fix was to fling on a points and coil set up and just nick a live feed off anything on the ignition switch that was going my way.
You can waste a whole lot of time trying to isolate electrical problems. The rule is to simply 'wire them out' i.e. add a wire that does what you want it to do.

Anyhow. The engine had never delivered any proper power, had a huge flat spot and was cr*p on fuel.
I had a spare day and 'Freewilly' had an available engine so I nipped over to 'Pandasport' and the two of us proved the theory that (two of) you can do a 4x4 engine swop in six to 8 hours and drive away without panic or stress.
It seems to be a great little engine and would probably merit having it's own oil rather that that from the late neglected one's lump.
All in good time. We didn't even know if it would run so splashing out on new oil was completely out of the question until it had at least proved itself.
As it happens it fired up instantly once the fuel pump had drawn up some liquid gold and I had remembered to hot wire it to the live side of the battery rather than the earth:bang:

Hi,

I have a Seat "Panda" Terra 1989 in beautiful sky blue and now I am having a bit of a panic that I have taken a bit too much on !

I am REALLY struggling to find the correct fitting gear mounting (I have bought two) and always struggle to find parts. :bang:
The first was for a a Panda 750 but the holes were two big. the second was for a fiat 127 (FEBI 12345) but the actual size was too big.
I loved seeing you so competently do up your little red soft top. Could you give me some pointers i.e. engine numbers or part numbers to look for or people to ring for help?!
Weirdly I found an engine manifold and starter quite easily, but this has me flummoxed!
Next on my to do list is get the door sorted before it falls off because of rust :D

Much appreciated in advance,
PHIL.

if it uses the 903cc petrol engine most of the stuff from a 899cc fiat cinquecento would fit (so long as it was mechanical like a starter, alternator or water pump) it is the same engine with a different cylinder head fitted.

you can look for parts for a Seat Marbella, though the gearbox mounts looked identical to the ones found on a Fiat panda dance.. or any other car panda shaped with the over head valve engine fitted.

i'd be on the look out for a seat marbella gearbox mount or a cinquecento one. to see if the look the same as the one fitted to your seat.

does this look like the original one?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, that's really useful. :worship:Yes it is a 903 petrol, alt. I've posted a pic of the current one in situ (not great) but it's in desperate need of replacement! Right on the hunt I go . . .

Thanks!! :D
