If you have joined this site in the hope of help to take a now very rare Fiat Panda 4x4 or any other Fiat Panda to Mongolia DON'T BOTHER. You will not get any help as we have no intention to let anyone take what's left of the Fiat Panda population in this or any other country to certain doom.

Instead send the Money direct to the charity knowing you have completed your charitable obligation for life. Otherwise you will spend fortunes to donate a more than likely sha*ged, ill treated and abused panda. Do you really think another broken to bits fiat panda 4x4 will help them in their days of need?

I and probably most other Fiat panda enthusiasts will go out of their way to help those who need our help, in fact I have travelled the length of the coutry to do so, but won't help anyone who thinks they can kill what's left of the 4x4's in this country or any other.

May sound harsh but I don't care.

If your desperate do the trip, why don't you be the first to do a return trip in the panda give them cash when you arrive and see if you can bring the panda back in one piece, I'll be the first to donate and help to such an event. If I can get the time I might even join you.

Other than that :nono: (n)

"Mongolians" have pushed up the prices of 4x4's. I was gazundered when I bought Piglet, there aren't so many down south, and I was the first caller who had arranged to view him, travelled 60 miles to see him, only to be told that the advertised £450 asking price was now £550 as the guy had 2 offers unseen from "Mongolians" I didn't blame him for upping the price really, but it was annoying. I suspect most of the rallyists don't realise how rare these are getting now, but personally I would have bonded with a car I'd driven that far, and wouldn't want to sell it, so it's an alien concept to me. I fully intend to restore Piglet over time, and haven't got any plans to move him on. He won't be heading east while I have him! My only torment now is whether I can bring myself to break the second 4x4 I bought for spares, but there's lots of rust, and I think it's better to sacrifice one to keep the other going.

Steve can you make this a sticky?

:yeahthat:

We are all more than willing to help Panda owners who want help to keep their Panda's going. Alan, several others and I have done this before, and will probably do it again, but to do it knowing the car is to be killed is nothing but a waist, when there are other Panda's which also need parts and help.

Just think logically. Who are we going to help more? A Panda with 3 months until doom day, or one that's going to be driven daily by someone who loves and enjoys their car:rolleyes:(y)

OK, I'll stick my neck out here.... I've taken part in the Mongol Rally twice, but used a Reliant Rialto on both occasions. Its true that the rally has taken a slightly unexpected route now, with many of the participants having a large budget (I took part in the first one and the cars were real wrecks!) and sadly the Panda 4x4 is one of the most successful cars to take part in the rally.
I understand whats been said about just donating the money, but we all know that the real reason for taking part has very little to do with charity. Its the same with the sponsored bungee jumps or whatever else folks get up to, the charity aspect is a good excuse to do something you wouldn't normally consider.
Why don't one of you approach a team that is taking a panda and arrange to meet them in Mongolia and bring the car back? Realistically the return journey can be done in 7-10days, and you'll get to see some of the greatest views around, meet some excellent people and you'll have saved a panda.
Most of the cars that arrive in Mongolia are broken up, with engines being used for water pumps etc, and the bodies sold as scrap.

I would hate to see these events stopped by the authorities, as it would be yet another liberty taken away from us:( I can see both arguments, personally I wouldnt want to wreck a rare car like a 4x4 Panda driving to a horrible uncivilised hole like Mongolia! However, donating to charity is worthwhile and commendable. If, however you feel the need for adventure why not drive a car round the more unusual parts of Europe and bring it home? Youll get to see proper culture and some gorgeous sights and be content in actually getting the car back. Then, donate what you want:(

End of the day though, its about freedom of choice, but also if you insist in doing this to any Panda, then this isnt the place to either brag or ask for help, you just wont get it.

Which is exactly what Jim and Sylvia do with the support of here and the NIIMC, and have raised quite a bit over the years. :slayer:

Why not plan out a route and then get sponsored per mile? As nuovopanda says, you'll get to see some fantastic scenery, have the adventure of a lifetime and get to bring the car back in one piece. (y)

I also agree with Xsparky in that I too would bond with a car doing a journey like that (unless it was an almighty unreliable heap!) If I'd been on an adventure with an old faithful Fiat then that Fiat would be my companion in the adventure. I couldn't just hand it over at the end of the trip knowing it was going to be abused/ destroyed :(

I have no problems in the fact that you have done the rally, I'm sure it was a life long memory but you are right the 4x4 was so sucessfull that almost every team now entering an event looks for one. Therefore most on this site including myself despises the event now.

The problem with the above is that the team taking it out won't care about the return journey and it will invariably be completely knackered on it's arrival. Only a team knowing that they were bringing it back themselves would treat it with some respect knowing they still had a long long way to go, driven with care I'm sure a 4x4 would easilly make the journey there and back. Plus I don't think that they are allowed to bring it back is that not part of the rules?

Hi Alan!

I was away for some time.

I understood and agree with your opinion about the mongol rallye.

I tried to transport this into the german fiat panda forum.

I feel there are some missunderstandings concerning this rallye

in the german forum. Sorry i can't help. (Don Quixote)
