I have access to a Fiat 600 (not D) shell with what is reported to be a rebuilt transmission but an engine that is non op. Interior is nonexistent. But the shell is good, has all the glass and seals, and the suspension is good. Price is right.

I would like to put together a good, quick and inexpensive car with this and this is what I am thinking:

  • Use the existing gearbox
  • Mate that to a rebuilt 750 or 850 motor (that is built to turn the correct direction for the 600)
  • Upgrade the front brakes to discs
  • Put in a front radiator with an electric fan system (Don’t know what is needed for the water pump) and Abarth body kit on front.
  • Leave the interior plainly empty – no carpet – no headliner – no door cards – nothing except two inexpensive seats and some rubber mats. Can always get to finish the interior at some later stage.

Does this sound like a good plan? If so, here are some questions:

  • How does the plumbing work?? What do you need to do the car to mount the front radiator?
  • What holes are needed on the sheet metal to run the hose from the rear to the front and back again? How is it secured?
  • Where do you put the electric fan for the radiator? Do you put a line of small fans along the front radiator?
  • How does the front valance fit onto the front of the body?
  • A high amp alternator would be needed for the electric pump and fans – what do people use?
  • Is there a book or a manual for this?

Reaching out for some wisdom from those that know.
