Re: thinking it might be time to move on

What Alfa? I keep looking at the Mito with the thought that I might chop both my 100HP and 500 in for one. Trouble is I really love the 100HP. My 500?, if I'm honest I might not miss it. Truth is I should have gone for the 1.4 500

Re: thinking it might be time to move on

Go for it, it does have the most powerful version of one of THE great Engines in it. Lots of people (on the Alfa forums I frequent) rave about the 147 GTA too. I always planned to replace my Alfa 155 with a 156, but never liked the Fiat based twinspark, I had disappointing drive in a 2.5 v6. the 3.2 in the GTA is a bit of a stonker though.

Re: thinking it might be time to move on

next decision is whether to sell as is or return to standard spec and potentially sell for same/more by opening up to a larger market

also the prices of LHD cars seem to vary widely but generally £1k above RHD

Re: thinking it might be time to move on

Ah, I did the same thing a few months ago, had my 1.4 lounge for 22k and 22 months and went for an Alfa GT diesel, 06 newer JTDm with 24500 miles.

This is my 4th alfa after 3 156, one was an estate but never the GTA. Anyway, a few niggles, A/C not working being one of them that cost £270 to relplace new pipes but hopefully all sorted.

What is it like? Well, for me and my 32 mile commute, I think it is much better than the 500 on the motorway and looks great. Did go on a long drive a few weeks ago and despite going rather quickly, managed 47mpg and far more comfortable for a 3 hr journey.

Anyway, I say go for it but read the Alfa forums first, so that you get an idea of the common issues / faults

Get an Alfa rob they are so much better looking. I like the Mito and the Giulietta dont know what engines the Giulietta has though.

156 shares windscreens with the proper Bravo.

Re: thinking it might be time to move on

I'VE BEEN THINKING THE SAME RECENTLY.

The choices I'm down to are.

BMW 120d
Alfa MiTo Cloverleaf
Alfa GT oil buner
Alfa 147 Ducatti Corse
Alfa 147 GTA (and use the wifes car for the commute)
Abarth 500
Honda CR-Z

Had a bmw 120i for a while and really liked it, lovely handling but make sure you ditch the runflats. Also had a 120d for a day and the power delivery really is linear and petrol like plus the FL efficient dynamic ones are cheap to run. Only problem was it sounded like a diesel! If it was me I'd go for bmw 130i straight six facelift model for a more sensible choice and the Alfa 147GTA if not!

Re: thinking it might be time to move on

My mate got a 156 GTA quite recently, had only done 17k and is pretty mint.

Hell of a car, brutal performance, makes the A500 seem positively slow!

A classic Alfa.

Re: thinking it might be time to move on

I came the other way - just traded in an Alfa 159 1.9 diesel Lusso and got a 500 1.4 Sport..........

Couldn't be happier - the Alfa was reliable and fast - but not really the fun that a £20+k car should have been. In the end I was bored with it.
