I wouldn't call it overheating just cos it goes above halfway but maybe if it hit 3/4s, I would check these things, core plugs, coolant leaks hoses etc, radiator, fan switch, Fan loom , does your fan come on both settings? Could be loads of things maybe your water pump is old, head gasket, that's my 2 cents worth lol

I have a Punto GT with a similar problem mine is because of the radiator fan loom not working only my secondary fan comes on, if you can, just put a manual override switch in the car so u can turn your fan on Wen u want, I see lots of owners do this.

I did my analysis this evening after work I will only see the Mechanic over the weekend, I noticed that the water level in the radiator has decreased I have been filling it up week after a week before the engine started heating up, there seem to be a small water leak but I don't see from where and water I the radiator is brownish when I touched the big hose from the engine to the radiator it was very hot that I couldn't touch it. Where exactly should I look for a problem I don't want to end up messing the car it starts well and drives well and fan kicks on as soon as the engine starts heating up but the gauge remains high.

Change radiator maybe? Core plugs are notorious on fiats for leaking, water pump maybe? Sorry I can't help u out more my car knowledge is limited to gts lol put a piece of cardboard under car that may help to see were leak is from, but there are only so many places a leak can come from also is there a puddle on the floor or losing coolant more Wen u are driving. stupid question u do put anti freeze right? If the car ever had just water in it it can pop the core plug out I think

Wen u say high how far up is the temp going

Don't sound like nothing too serious I'm sure your mechanic will be able to figure it out.

The temperature goes way over the middle bar and to my knowledge it should go that high, when I squeeze the big hose running from the engine to the radiator it's very hot it seems like there's no water circulation, it's just dry and there's no correspondence of water in the radiator it's just air I think I might be dealing with a dead thermostat? Or is there any other suggestion?

Sorry I mean it shouldn't go that high.i have attached a picture.

Haven't had any antifreezer poored on the on the car before or either any coolant. I changed the water pump last year October I don't think it might the cause of the problem.

Head Gasket failure would be my concern ..
Not good news.. but if you deal with it soon. Then it should not be too expensive.

These angines are easy.. I did the gasket in an afternoon for an elderly neighbour.

As a test.. remove the 4 sparkplugs.. and show us the colours..

Okay will do either today after work or tomorrow morning but the mech said he suspects the themostart I will hear from him when he comes around today or tomoro. I will ask him to remove the spark plugs.

Hello again friends, yesterday I got radiator flush and poured it this morning driving around before the mech arrived finally when he arrived we flushed out the water and cleaned with a hose then drove around and repeated the same process again the car was now on a minimal temperature function but not like before finally he removed the themostart and we drove again finally the engine performed perfectly as it should, no high temp as soon as it gets to the quarter bar the fan kicks and it runs back even when riding on a high speed it remains constantly low, thank for the advices i was dealing with a dirty radiator and a dead themostart. Thanks now the car is back on track????
