Hi all

Been searching the internet and thought it might be easier to clear a few things and post instead. Hope you're all able to help please. As the name suggests, I haven't really a clue with cars.

I have a 2013 Punto (Jet Black edition) which has dual automatic climate control. Frustratingly, when the weather got hotter it decided to just blow out hot air and then eventually the fans didn't work at all. Due to no time to sort it, I ended up just leaving it off and opening the window until I managed to get it sorted today. My usual garage couldn't help because of it being an electrical fault. I couldn't get in their recommended garage but being off work I had arranged to meet another recommendation from someone instead.

After looking on the known issues, it was exactly as described and I was shown where it had burned out. He explained that after a move of the wires the fans were back so he didn't think a new resistor was needed. He did some work on it and did a repair and the fans were back on, but still blowing hot air.

He then said to fix the hot air issue I had to get the air con regassed. Now my understanding was that air con and climate control were two completely different things and I don't want to embarrass myself going to get it regassed when that's the not the issue?

I'd be grateful if anyone could explain in simple terms to me please.

Thanks!!!

Tom

Aircon makes the car cold, if you have climate control it just means there are more complicated electronics that control the mix of hot and cold air into the car to maintain a set temperature.

You’ve got the fans working so the electronics side of things is now fixed, you more than likely do need to get the aircon regassed.

A common problem with air con systems is 1. People don’t replace the pollen filter leading to the motor struggling to move the air and then the motor burns out.

Then as the car gets older the gas eventually all leaks out and the aircon stops working.
As you’re getting no cooling at all from the aircon you’re best advised to take it to a garage and have them regas it, and add the correct amount of oil and some dye to the system, the oil will keep the compressor running smoothly and the dye will (should the problem reoccurre) show you where any leaks are.

Conveniently I’ve just made a video on changing the filter, and have another in the can on recharging the aircon

Hi. You have a cooling system. Using refrigerant fluid and a circulating pump..( just like a fridge / freezer)

And then a blower fan to move the chilled air around the car.

You have an issue with the refrigerated side:

An Aircon.service will pump out the remaining fluid..and weigh it..

Then do a pressure test - IF the pressure test is good.. tben they will refill the system.

If its got a hole in.. then there is no point. :(

I hope that is a little clearer.. :)

Question: the system blow hot air, do you mean HOTTER than external temp ??? If so you possibly have seized flaps/command …

If someone here helped You fix -or better, understand- your issue, hit the thanks icon @ bottom right corner, it's free and makes us feel helpy ;-)

Hope this narrows down the options Bernievarian

:)

Hi Charlie, assuming the Guy has inspected everything else, that would actually narrow down the options, BUT should we trust 'them' ?
More than necessary 'they' replace parts that weren't needed, and also fix the real issue so the Customer is happy, resulting in a penny to tener( or more) metamorphosis…

I suggested to check the flaps just to be on the safe side: doesn't make sense to freeze air that wouldn't get into the cabin because of seized flaps or blocked conduit, right ??
