hello all
I need some help with my ducato
I was driving along the motor way at 60 I lost power I could only go about 2000 revs
I pulled over onto the hard shoulder I stopped the engine it started fine but again after a while the power dropped off again I pulled off the motor way dropped down a gear but had no power at all
I have had it in the garage they changed the egr valve but it did not cure the problem
I have also cleaned the map sensor (I am awaiting a new sensor)
and I have not had any warning lights on the dash only after I cleaned the map sensor but that has since gone out

Can you give us more details is it 2.2 2.3 3.0 Euro 4 5 6 If the mil light been on a code will be stored why garage change egr when it was removed was it clogged or valve stuck?

its a 2.3 multi jet on a 2007 plate i have also changed the fuel filter and cleaned the mass air flow sensor
to be honest i did not ask what state the e g r valve was in
the even changed the brake switch because they spoke to fiat in Canterbury and they recommended them doing that

Hi have you removed the air box and filter pipes before the air flow meter check there is no bit of paper or leaf that keeps sucking onto air flow meter then blows back to the u shape pipe under filter this would cause your symptoms

Check the wiring loom, the one out of the ECU, it left the factory cable tied to the ECU bracket, this can wear through causing water from the infamous water ingress issues to run over the loom and over time corrode the wires

Search for X250 money saving tip thread, took a specialist weeks to solve mine after throwing everything and a new turbo at it, ended up making up a new loom

The symptoms you've described cannot be caused by the condition of the EGR valve, so replacing it was a waste of money. On the 2.3 multijet the most probable cause is a partially stuck throttle valve. It sits upside down under the intake manifold where it is subjected to raindrops sliding down the manifold front wall. The valve has a small drain hole in the chamber where the return spring is; because of the mounting position and the inevitable water ingress it allows water to enter and corrode the spring.

thank you can the spring be easily replaced and is it easy to get at

Theres a better throttle valve and conversion loom available if you have the problematic kind I would fit the newer one

Unfortunately no. You can restore normal operation without buying any parts, but to get access to the valve unit you have to remove the front, loosen the radiator mounting bolts and remove one large air duct.
The mounting bolts of the valve unit may have suffered from 10 years water ingress and can be difficult to remove.
