Hi.
My son owns a 1.6 16v 54 reg stilo

Just recently the car has started to cut out suddenly and without warning, and won't always start up until left for around 20 mins or so.
It also displays the words "poor connection" on the dash.

I come to it today, it started ok but the dash is now inop, ie no rev counter ect.

Now the rev counter is permanently on 1000 rpm.
Car still cuts out every now and again but has restarted 1st time.

I have removed battery connections, fuses and the fuse/relay box next to the battery.
Everything appears ok?

I am a qualified Renault technician but have never worked on fiat electrics to any advice is appreciated.

Hi Dave,
Can you get the battery on an overnight charge and see what happens tomorrow. Stilo's do not like dodgy batteries especially this time of year. Ive just changed mine to a Bosch027 s5. A good top of the range battery (Varta/Bosch) goes a long way to help the performance of the Stilo. If no result from the battery you may be looking at the instrument cluster. Good luck. alsimmo

Thanks I'll try it. But will the cluster cause the stalling ?

Not 100% sure but can the crank sensor cause starting and stalling problems. Someone else should be able to give us that answer Im sure.

Can you post diagnostic codes.

Crank position sensor will give that symptoms and message. Wise to invest in an ODB2 cable and software if haven't done so.

Code reader revealed no codes.
Removed and cleaned all earth cables, volt drop prior to this was ok only 0.01 0.02 v.
Still same regards the dash, and car run fine but it is intermittent.
Replaced crank sensor. Car running ok but no dash, however every now and again the dash kicks in for a split second then back off again.
Not sure why the dash is effected like this.

Any body with acces to a wiring diagram which shows what earth points do what and their location ?

Just had the car fault read.

Fault u1601 can line error, bus off, intermittent
Marelli MF body computer.

B1029 serial line w, communication error, intermittent
Few other faults in relation to door modules
U1602

Still no instrument panel, car stalling when warm. Windows go down on their own but mainly when using key rather than central locking plip.

I'm hoping it will be a unit down but not sure which one and no means of checking can lines.

Having to carry out checks in between the poor weather.
Probed pins 6 + 14 on the obd with battery disconnected I had a OL reading on my ohms meter believe I should have a reading if 60 ohms ?
Any thoughts.

OL = open circuit.
Is there any common part of the wiring loom that stilo's suffer from corrosion / water ingress or could this just be down to the clocks as they are inop

Sorted.
Remove injection comp and prize of rear cover.
Some pins have suffered due to heat and solder breaking up.
Re solder and push pins back through.
I got a tv repair bloke to do mine.

Believe the dash is a common problem on fiats and the whole dash can play up. I removed my clocks and took them to a bloke in dewsbury Huddersfield.
He specialises in these repairs and charged £120
