This is very common in the diesel engined Multiplas and Doblos, The most common problem is the egr valve which according to Fiat should be changed every 3 years !!
If while driving you get a loss of power, try taking it out of gear and flooring it. If it revs up but produces a lot of exhaust smoke then it is more than likely the egr valve.
Another problem which can also cause power loss is the MAF senser which is easy to change and is often another cause for power loss.
