Hi All,

I have recently had the error code P0238 flash up after driving for roughly around 20-30 mins at 80 mph (3000 rpm). This has put the car into limp mode.

Back story is that I had the corrugated EGR pipe split when away in Cornwall and had to drive it in limp mode for around 150 miles until i got home. There was quite a lot of black smoke /soot coming out.

After replacing this pipe, I took the car out for a drive and the above code flashed up.

My friend is a Mechanic and helped me with this car many times. We sprayed WD40 down to the actuator rod and checked pressure on pipes and eased this rod up. This hasn't solved the problem however.

He has advised that I need to change the pierberg pressure converter turbo charger.

I have been reading old threads on this forum and see people changed the map sensor.(No mention of any pierberg part) - Would this be the first point of call to do? - How easy is it to do?

My thinking is that things have perhaps got gunked up when the EGR Pipe split. - The EGR valve has been changed around 2 years ago. - I have carried out a test on it yesterday and working ok.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Before bothering to replace either the MAP sensor or the (Pierburg) boost solenoid, I'd check all of the small bore piping that connects them (especially the run that goes from the boost solenoid across the car, behind the radiator) paying particular attention to where the tubes fit onto the junction pieces, and also that your fusebox and relay panels are dry and the terminals not corroded. Pull and refit any suspect fuses or relays a few times to try to improve the connection. Although it's a bit of a tedious job, it costs very little to do this and most of the time the problem seems to lie there rather than with the more expensive sensors etc.

Not Multipla, but a typical example:

widemouthfrog Hi all. firstly, sorry for late reply. I think I have finally found the problem with my car. Had new map sensor and pressure sensor fitted. Also had dpf fully cleaned as too blocked. Had the car up on ramp today. Found the problem eventually. There was a spilt hose round the back of engine that goes round the back of the engine and links up the actuator valve. As soon as we changed the pipe the actuator rod went down upon start up as now have permenant vacuum. Tried the car at low speeds and really pulls away as clean as a whistle. Turbo has been flat for some time. Have spent a fair amount of money previously on fixing subframe etc so roll on Tuesday for new mot then burn out up motorway for ultimate test. Keep you guys posted ? - Will give kudos to another thread on here as been a life saver.
