Hi All!
I wish my first post to the forum could be something a little more cheery, but maybe there'll be time for that after my problems are fixed!
A few weeks ago, I bashed my 2010 Multipla 1.9 JTD's sump on a rock (Rural roads near my home are in horrific condition...), which cracked and dented it in deep enough to break the feeder pipe. Luckily a neighbour saw the oil trail and stopped me before any oil pressure warnings came on. I've taken off the sump and feeder pipe, and had them welded up at the local engineering works and reattached the lot. Since then, the ECU light shines constantly, but I ran the engine at idle for about 20 minutes to warm it up nicely and check for leaks.
However, when I took it for a drive, the "Low oil pressure - stop engine" warning came up after only a kilometer. I immediately stopped the car, and confirmed that the oil level was fine (actually slightly overfilled...).
I decided to drive the car home. It seemed to run fine with no unusual noises or smoke, but the red oil pressure light occasionally flicked on and off, which made me extremely nervous - I killed engine to freewheel most of the way, and only started it up again to build up speed for uphills.
Is it possible that the oil pump might be damaged by debris from when the feeder pipe broke? A lot of forum discussions suggest that the oil pressure sensor might be faulty, but it seems a bit of a coincidence that it could have failed right at this time.

make a diagnostic, maybe it's just a fault, that ecu didn't erased. But even oil presure light didn't light on after crash, doen't garanty that engine wasn't damaged. I sugest to check engine pressure

My guess is that it is something to do with the oil pick up pipe either not in the right place or the pipe itself sucking air through a hole or being damaged in some way.
For example if the strainer end of the oil pick up pipe is pressed hard into the sump so there is no space between the strainer and the sump then the oil pump will struggle to pick up oil causing the problem and could be likely if it was deformed and then reshaped roughly. That would be my best guess.
Regards
Stephen

this is very possible. If so it,s very big problem, because your engine was running without enough oil pressure

It certainly needs putting right and it is true that running without oil pressure will eventually damage the engine of course but the ability of these little engines to put up with abuse to their bottom ends is very good. I have seen these engines with 50,000 miles between oil changes and oil which is so thick with carbon it won't drain from the sump and still they go on.
But starving the oil pump of oil will ruin it and therefore needs fixing urgently.

Stephen
