just flipped the sun visor down and it fell off, i have removed the screw and took off the bracket but cant see what keeps it in place any ideas welcome

The end of the plastic rod (where it extends through the mounting bracket), is heat-formed so it can't pull out of the mounting, I suspect yours has broken off.
You could drill a small hole in the centre of the end of what's left (as long as it's flush, or nearly, the top of the mounting block), then fit a small washer and self-tapping screw.
Basically you need something that'll stop it pulling out again.

thanks bike doc it worked a treat. I took the bracket off and there is already a hole there, so i pushed the visor back into its mounting and secured with a 3/4" x 10 pan head self tapping screw... good as gold solid as a rock... thanks very much for that tip
