Hi peeps
My 1.9 jtd multipla has developed a starter motor fault. Essentially, when I park it outside my house, which has a slight incline, sometimes the starter fails to engage.
What I get is just a loud clicking noise, as if some relay is triggering, but there's no starter response.
My thoughts are:
a) It's either a start motor sticking
b) It's an earthing problem
Why I think b) Because sometimes when I insert the key, I can see the battery light flicker, as if there's a low battery, when there isn't. The pattern of flickering is akin to random arcing type bzzzkk, if that makes sense.
Sometimes when I slam the bonnet hard, it will start immediately when I turn the key, as if some wiring is now sufficiently in place.
Why I think a) I can start it if I do a bump-start thing where I roll the car backwards down my drive, with the clutch in but in-gear, and then start the car whilst pulling out the clutch. Once again, starts quickly without any labouring starting noise to indicate a dud battery.
Does anyone have any idea here as I don't want to go to the expense of having a new starter fitted, just yet. I rather get the benefit of your info first.
Thanks in advance,
Tom
