Panda 04' Dynamic with Skydome (Abby)

Introduction

Good morning all,
Presenting a car some will be familiar with, Abby! She was named by my 7 year old daughter and it stuck. For a short time, belonged to Paula, Urchins wife, so I knew the car would be a good one (unlike the Stilo I bought last year).
She's a dynamic model with a few added extras: Skydome, Alloy wheels, roofbars, front foglights, rear mudflaps, netting in rear seat footwell for extra storage and rear Fiat sunblinds . Bought from Ilkeston with a stack of history and runs beautifully.:worship::worship:

A few bits need doing:
  • Slight blow on exhaust
  • Thermostat needs to be replaced
  • Good wash down inside (sitting for a while and developed some mould)
  • N/S electric window repair
  • Full service required
  • Check and adjust/replace rear brakes
  • New rubbers for parcel shelf
  • New cigarette lighter (blue light to match interior) needed
  • Skydome curtains need some WD/40
  • Interior needs a good wash

The pictures attached are from the autotrader website, the last 2 pictures were taken yesterday, both my Pandas together :):)

My wife and I was searching through autotrader and eBay ads looking for another car (as we had both had it upto our eyeballs with the Stilo) and saw a very pretty blue panda. I clicked on it as its not often you see a skydome panda for sale and we both liked it. So I looked at the location and saw it was in Ilkeston. I thought it was the biggest coincidence seeing as that was where the grey panda came from, at this point it still didnt click that this was Paulas car until I looked at the pictures and saw the FiatForum sticker in the window. I checked in the classifieds ad on FF and the details were the same. Knowing how Richard took care of his cars, we both agreed that we were sick of the lemon we had bought before and I emailed the garage that same night. I booked my train ticket for the following day, went to Ilkeston and bought it!:)
Engine has been running too cold. My previous pandas always stay at around halfway on the temperature gauge, but this one seems to be dropping below a quarter! New Fiat thermostat arriving soon, hope this cures it. Also on order - a set of NGK copper core plugs. Will give it a full service in the coming weeks.

New thermostat installed over the weekend. The easiest way is to remove the coilpacks using a small allen key and a 10mm socket on a short extension. hardest part was getting the bloody clip off the hose! Replaced the thermostat with a chunky jubilee clip and cold running has been cured. :)

Also adjusted the handbrake and fixed the cigarette lighter.

Does the skydome open James?

Looking really nice, glad you are showing it some love (y)

Good to see more MK2 and 3's together too :)
Yes it opens. Will get a couple pics up tomorrow if we get a bit of sunshine :)
I love having the two together, although when it comes to meets, it'll always be the 4x4 hehe

Fiat won't sell you the parcel shelf rubbers Separately only the whole shelf unit. Maybe improvise with some rubber tubbing.

As promised, here are a few pics of the skydome(y)
I'll get some better pics once I've detailed the car in summer

A little thing, I never liked the orange light. Wouldnt mind it so much if I had a Mamy! So I bought a universal blue and swapped the plastic. Much prettier! :p

Yesterday I drove to Walton on Naze, a 120mile round trip. Was a beautiful day out and car ran beautifully there and back.

However this morning, car started and ran for a few seconds and then died! Tried to start again and it wouldn't fire. So I started with the usual, checked the battery, got the laptop out to check error codes (none), checked fuel was going in, check for a good spark, all ok. Then checked the timing, I took the belt off and it was really loose! I was so surprised but also so happy that it didn't do that to me the day before. The belt was out by 5 or 6 teeth and damaged (pics below).

New belt fitted and ran beautifully again. I said to my sister if that happened on her Renault, it would have cost hundreds of pounds to fix!! Gotta love the non-interference FIRE engine(y):worship:
