hello everyone. im pretty new here.
i have recently bought a 1.6 16v fiat stilo.
i saw it on autotrader for £700
tax till august , moted till march 2013.
65,000 miles
slight paint fading on bonnet
and blow in exhaust.
so i jumped on a train from london to cheltenham (across the country towards wales) with a one way ticket... and bought it...
bearing in mind i was driving my first car beforehand ( a ford KA 1.3 LOL u all owe me a slap)
so when i saw it... the bonnet had a serious paint problem , the laqure top coat was completely buggered. it was peeling . the entire car is faded from a rich red to almost coral red . ill show you some pics in a little bit of the paintwork problems and fading.
i knocked the guy down to £650 straight away due to this....
also had a few bulb warnings on the dash... easy fix..
then came the dreaded moment... ( i dont have log books for it but im waiting for them to come through "HE SAID"
so i called dvla an asked them if there was any markers on the car, they said no. they also told me log books had been applied for the vehicle from the new owner but they couldnt tell me the name of the person who had applied [data protection act] .. fair doos.
i did a MY REG CHECK (clear)
i also have a contact that works for the PLOD ... he did a check on the plate for me an everything was fine... naughty naughty
i took a copy of the blokes drivers licence and his NHS DOCTORS REGISTRATION CARD [ yes he was a doctor].. just to be sure.. knocked him down to £600 cos of the logbooks... and i drove the car home to london.
so on the way back i relised the cars temp kept rising on the motorway when i booted it...
this turned out to be a slight leak leak in the rad.... this is now fixed...
however now i think the sensor is broken cos the needle thinks its on cocaine.. .. cold hot cold hot cold hot up down up down up down.. there are no more leaks. the hoses are good.. and i changed the coolant... so must be the sensor.
the blow in the exhaust.... that ended up being the gasket on the downpipe fromt he engine .. thats now fixed
i now have the logbooks.
but now i have more problems ...
ive had to keep change stop brake bulbs 3 times in the left brakelight since i bought it ... hmm ?
i have had to change the clutch... u would of LOLed so hard at the state of the old one ..... i mean ive seen less mess in a SAW film. it was torn apart.
so the gearbox had to come off and ect ect ect . not just the clutch ... the clutch hydralics ended up dying on me 2 days after i bought it...
ive gone thru 3 used master clutch clyinders from the breakers as they kept just deciding not to work... ive now bought a brand new one...
oh btw if you live in south east london... and your trying to find stilo hydraulic clutch components in breakers yards... give up .. cos what i could find.. ive bought for spares.. =D
so i was pretty pi$*ed at this bloke.. he had obviously lied to me about all the problems with this car...
i said to him.. ive spent more time fixing it then driving it since i purchased it..
said that im gonna park it back up on his drive and burn it if he didnt compensate me for the problems he decided not to tell me about.
i managed to swindle back £100 from him , he sent it via postale order the next day .. so ive now paid £500 for the car... (touch)
right so the cars on what like.. 66 ... 67 thousand miles so the service lights come on .. this gonna be done in next few weeks
ive changed the brake pads... and the disks as these were metal on metal ..
so ive paid in total prob somewhere in the reigion of 900 - £1000 ..
now the tracking rod end ont he left hand wheel has play on it.. this is producing a pretty annoying knocking sound as i steer left and right..
so now i have to fork out for them.. ill fit them myself and then get the tracking checked at a garage after..
( i may need advice on this.. as im not too clued up on some aspects of mechanics)
so if anyone wants to give me there 10 pence of advice... all is welcomed
KEEP AN EYE ON THIS THREAD..
soon im lowering her..
and going to respray her. tint windows.. might even put a bigger engine in her next year when i hit 25.. and me insurance drops a little

UPDATE
---------------------------------------
Thermostat is shot. need a new one.
i changed the tracking rod ends today but nearly totaled the car in the process..
TIP dont use the spare wheel jack to hold up the car for a prolonged amount of time LOL
mine buckled and snapped , luckily i had the wheel off and sat under the car under the drivers door saving my little beauty from hitting the floor
the replacement went well tho, the new ends are bolted in place and tight, my annoying steering knocking has gone.
the left side rod end bolt was bent and had a crack in the bolt and was ready to snap... !!! couldnt belive the state of it ! could of gone at any moment
ANYWAYS....
im thinking of purchasing a electric spray gun and covering the car in matte black , using Plastidip paint.
for you that dont know what it is.. its an amazing elastic/rubber paint. you need minimal masking to spray the car..
u can spray over the windows , lights.... everything.. wait for it to dry and peel it off !
