Hi,
I have 97' TD100 engine in my car ( Weekend ).
So the problem is:
The starting is good ( in hot and in cold ) but !
When the engine is running sometimes the motor stops short. I have changed the Capacity Measurer and nothing. I was in service and there the man read the ECU. Everything is good. The Sometimes the engine jolts. And i have not more solution. The fule filter is new. Please help me because this problem is very nerve-racking. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Try the water bleed valve and also try beeding the fuel lines to the injectors.
Aha !

Can you help me!
Where is the water bleed valve ? And if it is wrong why wrong my car ?
thx,

Diesel absorbs water which collects in the bottom of the fuel filter assembly. You have to bleed this regularly. There should also be a warning light on the display if it gets too full of water. There is a bleed screw on the bottom of the fuel filter.

To bleed the high pressure fuel lines, loosen the unions at each injector slightly and run the engine for a few seconds to blow out any air or water that got past the filter. Be careful as high pressure fuel is dangerous.

Thanks,
That not was the problem! I unpluged the plug on the bottom of the fuel filter an nothing!
Now, the problem is stiil alive!

When you say nothing did you mean no water or nothing at all?
You should get fuel out.
When you loosen the bleed screw at the bottom you should also loosen the bleed screw on the top of the filter to let air in. Once water has stopped coming out of the bottom tighten the bottom screw and then the top one.
If you still get nothing out of the bottom you have an air lock in the system somewhere. Check all pipes and bleed the high pressure fuel lines by loosening the unions at the injectors and running the engine for a few seconds. Be careful as high pressure fuel is dangerous.

Do you park on a hill? This can cause fuel to drain out of the system causing air pockets that either stop the engine from starting or cause it to cough.

Good luck.

Hello!
Yes I cleared the filter and after I made out the air from the filter and the injection pump. I checked the fuel line from the tank to the pump and nothing.
So the problem is never constant. Sometimes the problem is alliv, sometimes the problem is gone.
Example: Yesterday moorning! ( Temperature is : 15C ) I started the engine perfectly and after I went out from my garage. After I started to my workplace. ( This was 2-3 minuteas after the engine starting) So, First gear and go. The engine was up and down , up and down I pushed in the clutch and I saw the rpm was between 500 and 1500 . The rpm was waving about 20 seconds. After everything good.
Other example: I was on highway and I tried the car what it did on the highway on fast speed. Nothing ! Everything good! I went about 150-160km/h and engine worked fine. After sometimes in the city when I speeded up very watchfully ( in the second gear ) the engine checks a little seccond. But this check is very little and the passangers do not feel it ! I think I feel it only on the accelerator pedal !

I hope I wrote everything good, because my English is not the best !
Thanks your help !

It is difficult with an intermittant fault. Can you get a rolling diagnostic carried out?
It could be a faulty injector or fuel pump. You can get the injectors checked at a diesel specialist. Other things to check are the electronic accelerator potentiometer if fitted and the auto cold start device, again if fitted.

Good luck and sorry I can't be of any more help.

Is there any smoke when the engine starts to jolt?

I'd be looking at the engine postion sensor as a starting point.

I do not know !

I hope the pump is good !
Thanks the all help and I hope I am able to go to the diesel specialist in the next month! If i have more information aI will write it !

RS Pilot:
What is the engine postion sensor and where is it ?

The engine position sensor tells the engine management when to inject fuel and also the engine speed. If your engine looses this signal it will revert to a 'safe' setting or stop injecting all together causing a surge. It could be that you are momentarily loosing this signal

It should be on the engine block, very near to where the gearbox mounts as it gets it's signal from either the flywheel or a timing wheel on the crank depending on the model.

It's basically a magnetic pick up and if it gets contaminated with debris (espescially metallic) it can struggle to pick up a signal from the flywheel/tonewheel.

Hello again!

Yesterday I unpluged that sensor from the engine block. This is a magnetic in a plastic barrel.
I cleared it and after the problem is still alive!
Please help me!

This next suggestion may be unrelated but it's worth doing just to eliminate and that's to block off the EGR (it's also illegal in some countries even though your engine will produce less smoke!). This is the device that puts exhaust gases back into the engine to be burnt again for better emissions (chemical content rather than smoke). It will be on the exhaust manifold and is a cylindrical valve with a small diameter pipe going to the top of it. Take off the top pipe, push in a small ball-bearing (needs to be a tight fit) and then put the pipe back on the EGR so it looks like it's all linked up and working.

They are charging 30 Euro on ebay for this mod to help get a diesel car through it's annual emission test!!

Ok!
I unpluged the cable and after the car is better, but today I was 2 problems!
So:
I standed ath the traffic lamp and after I must start hardly.
first gear hardly, second gear hardly, and third and the engine was stoped.
I stoped and after I tried to start the engine again. Nothing.
The engine did not do anything only turn. After 10-15 second the engine start again!
