2 things if anyone has any suggestions - other than a sledgehammer:D

Heater blowing warm/hot air only.

Put the lights on and the wipers come on.

snapped cable i expect, not quite sure how to dismantle the console off the top of my head but if you get it off you will probably see the cable has become disconnected.

Put the lights on and the wipers come on.

more than likely a stalk fault, although they are on opposite sides so maybe something more sinister

for the heater fault, probably a control cable has become detached from the control knob or diverter flap on the airbox. check the temperature control knob is making the flap move (if you remove the glovebox and look in, you should see the lever for the flap). or the knob itself could be busted. for the lights/wiper fault, check the condition of the wiring connectors coming from the stalks. remove the steering column covers to see them. a connection may have overheated and melted in the connector, and shorted out.

with regards to the wipers.

when i first got my jtd 110 and it was raining if i had my wipers and lights on, when i switched off my wipers they would continue until i turned off my lights. I could then turn the lights back on without the wipers wiping again. Then one day it stopped?? so probably a bad connection that sorted itself out and therefore not something to worry about.

cheers

Mr Marea

Had the same problem as Mr Marea in my JTD110. Occasionally couldn't turn wipers off if lights were on, especially on long nightime journeys if the lights'd been on a long time. It was an intermittent fault, dealer replaced stalks under warranty, but couldn't sort it. Eventually it sort of stopped happening so I never bothered getting a proper auto electrician to look at it after the warranty expired.
Current problem is that I've lost intermittent wipe and automatic return, so I have to 'catch' the wipers in the down position when I switch off. Suspect that's a relay problem. Had it for ages and am living with it, but is it a cheap fix or do I need a whole new wiper motor?

you can replace the relay seperately but i think it is soldered on to the motor PCB so a scrapyard motor would be easier, and only £10-20.

Well I'm blowed. After about 2 years the problem has suddenly cured itself without me doing anything. Wipers now back working in all modes, including intermittent, park and automatic wash wipes. So what was that likely to have been then?

the PCB/relay assembly. curing itself isnt unusual, but it'll be back mark my words.

printed circuit board: that green plastic thing with loads of soldered electrical components on it. it controls the motor.

You were right Jug. Left car at Cardiff airport while we jetted off to Ibiza for a week and returned Saturday to find the wiper problem was back. Hey ho, back to 'catching them' in the park position after an all too short 3 months of working perfectly.

Meanwhile, anyone know a good bodyshop in Bridgwater area to do a reasonably priced, 'non-insurance job' prang repair for me? My own gatepost jumped out at me and clipped the front nearside as I reversed in to park (too busy looking in mirror to avoid son's car which was parked alongside.
And by the way, don't use a turbo jet washer on colour coded bumpers 'cos it takes the paint off, if there's the slightest scratch the jet can get under. Will need to get body shop to sort that too. Grrr!

stick a scrapyard wiper motor on, complete with its electrics box still attached.

imo you shouldnt use a jetwash on any part of any car. if you want to clean moss off your path then its a good choice, but the only thing that should ever clean a car is a careful hand.
