hello there just thought I would join a chat room and tell you all that I am about to buy my first fiat car. Not only is it my first fiat it is my first car. I have heard that they are reliable and good quality cars.
the car that I am going to buy is a fiat cinquecento sx. I think I am getting good value for money and even though it has 80 miles on the clock. It has also two pairs of tyres. One set being alloys and the other normal tyres. A new exhaust and a brand new clutch.
I am interested in peoples oppinion on the cinquecento and also I would like to talk to people who own them.

https://www.fiatforum.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=40 should give you some advice on what to look out for, cinqs are great 1st cars especially if you get the SX with the extra goodies.how much are you looking at paying and also 80,000 miles is quite high for a little cinq, what year is it?

My first car was an SX. Great little runner. Still ran even when I sold it. Make sure you give it a damn good check before buying it because you don't want something creaping up on ya a few months down the line!

i was going to get a 7 seater diesel toyota untill i heard of all the problems they have with head gaskets and water pumps.
just got rid of a hyundia lantra that has a jap mitsubisi engine, most unreliable car ive ever owned.

lol dave about spelling.

Is there many on here that won't buy a Japanese car (specifically Mitsubishi) because of the way they acted in WW2? I know my Grandfather won't...just wondered if he was one of the few.

He is a Pole and left Poland at the start of WW2 however and would still buy a Merc..hmmm! lol.

I wouldn't not buy something because of its origins from way back in the past. However I do not buy things on purpose in current times of turmoil - not a car but I refused to buy anything french eg. apples, wine during the whole BSE thing because they wouldn't buy our beef. I know I probably made very little difference but if large numbers of people did it it would make huge differences to world trade.

hey there thank you all for the advice. The car that I am going to buy is a Cinquecenot sx 1993 L reg car. The body work is fantastic, a lovely red colour. The paint has not faded yet. There is a brand new clutch just fitted this year in it. A new exhaust. And as from today a set of new rear shock absorbers. It has electric windows and a sun roof. As well as a fitted imobiliser. I am looking forward to buying it and I look forward to any more advice that you can give to me.

thank you for all the advice so far.

The Nissan Micra is built in England.
Despite the Hyundai having a Mitsubishi designed engine, it was still built in Korea. Japanese built small cars are the most reliable in the world and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know cars. they constantly top reliability and customer surveys. and like it or not, Fiats are statistically unreliable.
It is true that some Toyota diesels have problems, but it isn't a fair representation of their overall reliablility and certainly not a reason not to buy one. We've had Toyota vans that've done 700000 miles without incident, the same cannot be said for the Mercedes Benz Vitos and Sprinters, which are constantly troublesome.

Your cinq sounds like a good un! Get a well looked after one and youll be fine. As for Jap cars, mt wife had a Mazda 626, it was always breaking and was pants to drive, I had a brand new Micra last year, that was pants and terrible quality (the new Panda is far better). My wife has a Toyota Paseo which is a nice little coupe but so dull. Thats the thing, unless you go for a Jap supercar they are all pretty dull and boring, Fiats arent. Also 12 Fiats, no breakdowns for me is super reliable!

1987 126 FSM, 12" minilight style wheels, clear rear lights, smoked indicators.
2004 Panda Eleganza.... nice!

The mazda 626 had poor reviews to go with poor sales. but the new mazda 6 is very nice and fast. with a good diesel engine. Untill now jap cars have only been very reliable, but dull to drive, but would you say that about the civic type r? In general i think the japs are doing away with the dull drive part in most of their cars.

The cinq your getting sounds good, make sure you don't pay too much for it though.

Chris
