right i had a post in the cinq section but is kind of evolved so i thought i would post here to open up the views/help :)

had probs with the turbo running rough on idle with a high tickover(bout 1100rpm)

now on start up it runs like its on 3 cylinders till you give it some revs to 'clear' it
on boost and hard acceleration there seems to be no real problems apart from the odd little hesitation.
also on test runs(on my private track ;) )ive noticed it has big hesitations and kangerooing on tight right turns when you accelerate hard.

i have a non turbo cinq here so ive been swapping parts over to test.

so far....

new plugs
swapped HT's(only done bout 500 miles)
swapped both coil packs
swapped the idle stepper motors
new lambda sensor fitted(car had incorrect sensor fitted)
map sensors swapped
removed induction filter and made sure pipe to turbo was clear
looked over engine and cant find obvious loose wires,vacuumm/induction leaks

the parts swapped to the non turbo cinq seem to be working fine. no real difference on the turbo though i would say its a bit smoother

thinking something may be loose/broken and the right hand turns are highlighting this?

next thing on the list are a new fuel filter and maybe coolent temp sensor.

any input/ideas greatly appreciated as i'd like to get the turbo in to set up the fuelling via the MF2 unit but dont want to put it in if it has another fault.

Awful sorry to mention this, but running on 3 cylinders from a cold start is one of the major signs of a head gasket failure.

The right turn problems point to other faults, though. What's the fuel tank like - does it hold pressure - can you get the hiss when you take the cap off?

head gasket wouldnt be the end of the world,if thats what it is. i'll moniter coolant etc and see.although its holding its temps fine.
think the tanks holding pressure, get mixed up as im running the 2 cinqs just now
Hmm...my 1242cc was running rough for 10 months due to a breached HG - no obvious blow, but I havd reused it and got coolant on it.

It ran like crap and had no power...coolant was black, HG soaked and that held temperature fine, no coolant in oil though!

well it looks like i'll need to do it anyway for sure.:(
need to wait as i recently got my tools nicked  so need to get the cash together fro the torque wrench and all the other stuff. no idea how many tools you have till you lose them, costing a fortune havingto buy more

Might be worth checking all the fuels lines I had a similar problem with my Y10 Turbo which turned out to be the fuel pipes breaking down and gettin into the carb....

Obviously slighty different with injection but just a thought.....

:)

right then.
replaced the ecu temp sensor. need to clock up some miles for the ecu to learn to see if theres a difference.
did a compression test(dry)
no 1. 192 psi
no 2. 187 psi
no 3. 192 psi
no 4 180 psi

so it looks like the HG is fine.
me thinks i'll need to get it on the rolling road to get the fuelling set up(running rich) and see where we are from there

I'll add my two penneth's (not worth much), have you checked your engine mounts as if one is dodgy it will amplify any rough idling (due to the engine moving about a bit more) and possibly show up more going through corners. Also when you fitted new plugs did you try a different hardness or make as some plugs are better than others at sparking different mixtures especially if running rich (always the option if there's car meet somewhere of swapping plugs with other cars). Could try the Uno turbo boys if they've any answers (apologies if you've already posted there as I'm to lazy to search the forums).

could be an engine mount for the rougher idle showing.but you can hear/feel it missing on idle. on the bends the engine is really 'kangerooing' much more than just a roughness. had a look to see if there was a loose wire, fuel line etc but ant really see anything. the rolling roads in edinburgh are closed due to the G8 so i'll have to wait till tuesday at the earliest to make an appointment so i'll be having a good scout around.
also going to change the fuel filter tomorrow.

personally i dont think it will be engine mount, u dont really notice dead engine mounts till u pull away, then u will really know about it, a grinding noise where there is metal touching metal!

no harm in lookin tho, have a quick feel around the mount, if it is all smooth and u cant feel where the mount has fallen through then it is fine!!!

I know what your saying, I just offered the mount option as it may be shagged (too many 0-60's in 3.5secs) as well as whatever is causing the rough running in the first place.

right then. update!!
since fitting a ecu temp sensor (ta dave (y) )the starting and idle speed seem to be improving.
took it out today to clock up some miles for the ecu to learn.

well on a big roundabout that leads to the M/way the engine coughd and spluttered with no power.got as near to cutting out as you can without cutting out. got the car straightened up and slowed a little and power returned.

took the car home running okay.put it on axle stands and revved the engine while turning the steering to no effect. so put it down to the engine moving under turning forces and affecting whatever.

looked a fuel pipes etc and saw nothing. then looked at wiring. pulled on the wiring to the passenger side of the inlet manifold and the engine cut out.

upon digging around i found a connector tucked beside the alternator covered in insulating tape. once i removed the insulating tape the 3 spade connectors came away. so now the car will not start :(

now im assuming this is the crankshaft sensor connection. problem is its very awkward to access the wiring and i dont know the order the 3 wires should be connected in as there is not other connector end.

The manuals are a bit vague on this, but it looks like the colours should match (assuming the wiring inside the sensor cable is coded...).

Black is screen earth (interference suppression) and the other two are the signal to the ecu.

I can go have a fish on mine if you like to see what's what.

ooh, might have a spare connector in the garage too...

right went out.moving the expansion tank gave me some room to work.
connector is sealed so i just used guesstimation(tm) and got it 2nd time round.
well its running anyway

thinking i need to get a gas soldering iron(too far away for mains power)and start soldering allthe dodgy connections as between this and the lambda god knows what was going through the 'sparks' mind with some of these botch jobs.

while i was working on that one of the spade connections to the 2nd injector broke as well
