Yeah had to do this when my clutch cable snapped, would'nt recomend to do it all the time tho!

oh, the noise in front of the car if you force the gears, only do this when its switched off. Did it to the panda once when moving, f**ked it up as well with a lot of noise. Well I was a new driver at the time and had to try things out... ended on the back of a RAC truck home :p

no when driving if you know how to do it you can go up and down the box without the clutch making no crunching noises at all. perfect for when you're feeling lazy and can be bothered to lift your leg up and push the clutch down!

Yeah, I do it occasionally. I wouldn't suggest you should do it all the time as you'll wear the synchros out.
Managed to start mine and drive it 2 miles home without the clutch when the cable snapped.
