Hi All,

Just a quick note to point you at this weeks Auto Express magazine (7-13 Jan 2009 / No 1045) if you haven't already seen it.

There is a new vs. old side by side test feature on 11 'living legends' which include both the Panda 4x4 and the 500 :slayer:

Also there is a feature on the Abarth 500 coupe that may be of interest too (y)

Tom.

abarth 500 coupe?

It's fiat version of the a smart roadster, if that makes sense. Based off of the new 500 platform.

mmmmm i like that a lot

From what I've heard it aint going to be based on the 500 in any way shape or form. Think a British manufacturer and you're much closer to home.

Autoexpress are a bunch of retards. They photoshop stuff based on rumours they hear and by the time people have realised it's BS they've put out another thousand crappy photochops which people are gawping at.

I mean 12k for a low volume coupe version of the 500 Abarth? What a load of ********. These are never going to sell in high volumes and low volumes means a premium.

Anything about these two pictures strike you as strange?

If it's not obvious look at the background and the seaweed next to the cars windscreen. They've taken a Cayman and made a Ferrari Dino out of it!?!?!?! WTF?

Autoexpress isn't worth the paper it's printed on most of the time :)

Bear in mind other sites are showing same pics ( just google Abarth coupe)and based on a 500/Panda floor pan it is only the size of a Smart Coupe so price would be about right
I'll put my neck on the line and do a Jeremy Clarkson..... If that car launches with a Panda/500 floorpan and drivetrain then I'll eat an omelette made with some of my own hair in it :)

Think British car makers who make cars like this and you'll get an idea of who the Fiat group are talking to about the possibility of this car. Starts with L ends with S.

Seriously though 12k for a highly modified 500 shell which is going to require bespoke panels. It's not going to happen with the volumes they'll be aiming for :)
