Can someone please explain what heat shield is, and how much it will cost to fix.

If it's the one on the catalytic converter, just rip it off - then don't park in long grass.

This was my original post and everyone seemed to think it was heat shield. I don't even have a clue what it is any suggestions would be great. How much would it cost to be fixed.

Ive got a strange noises coming from my car ( 95 MK 1 Punto). Don't know what it is.

It's a strange noise coming from underneath my car. It sounds as if i've knocked my exhaust off and it's rattling away. But the sound is coming from the front of my car. The noise becomes quite loud when the car is idle. When changing gears especially in lower gears it sound more as if the car going to stole. Even though it never does it's just the sound of it. Oil and coolant is fine

The heat shield is a piece of metal that covers the catalytic converter on the exhaust, it will be toward the front section of the exhaust. Try to see if it's loose (obviously not when the car's hot though).
