Hey,

Am I correct in saying that the different power in the current JTD range is simply produced differently by a difference ECU map.

Such as;

The Punto 1.9 MK2.5b MultiJet HGT JTD produces 100HP & 192 Lb/ft

While the

Punto 1.9 JTD Eleganza produces 85HP & 145 Lb/ft

Are these the same engine and the different power output is all from the different ECU or are there differences within the engine. Also just a side note, could a company put say the Eleganza ECU on the HGT and it would still work or would the car just go hay wire!!

This may sound like odd questions its just Im trying to get some information as my HGT JTD is having a new ECU fitted and I dont wanna be screwed over with the 85HP ECU while paying group 9 insurance... get me!

What is the engine ECU code for the 1.9 MultiJet HGT JTD 100HP & 192 Lb/ft engine :)

Many thanks!

The two engines you ask about here, are different.
The engine block is basically the same and it has same bore and stroke.
The main difference in in the injection system; the 85hp version is a first generation common-rail (what Fiat called unijet or JTD), the 100hp version has the second generation common-rail (what Fiat calls multijet or MJET. Sometimes they still call them JTD). Both have a fixed geometry turbo-charger (but I think they are different) and intercooler.
I don't have the engine code for the 100hp at hand but I'll search and see if I can't find it.

For more info look here: http://www.italiaspeed.com/new_mode...models_punto_2003_02.html#100bhp_1.9_multijet
It describes both the 100hp and the 85hp engines.

Yes, I would think so as they are two different engines and they use different injection systems.
You could remap the 100hp to 85hp if you want to, but I don't think the dealer would actually do that :D
And i'm fairly sure you would notice the difference IF they could do it. I mean if you go from 100hp to 85hp and from 260nm to 196nm, you will know the minute you drive away from the dealer.

Ive not driven it yet :D hense why I am having abit of a worry!

I am trading my Panda 100HP for it and I am going to have a test drive before I sign and buy when its all fixed but the car itself is spotless as I went last week to see it.

I doubt they will screw me as it would simply be to much hassle and I think ECU's will all be around the same price!

Cheers

Eeeerrrhhhh.....yes.......uuuhhhhmmmmmmm.....wait a minute and I'll check my records.
Just so you don't loose sleep while waiting, this may take a few years as my old logfiles are still in paperform (I only started using computers for logfiles a few years ago). :D

And the chimney thing isn't a problem anymore, this year i'll be testing a new teleport device. So no more dirty chimneys for me. ;)

And I still like cookies and milk (and Baileys (y) ).

Are there any "KNOWN" major faults with the 100HP 1.9 Multijet engine that anyone has to share or anything to look out for??

Anything prone to go, such as ECU's (n)

nothing so far, which is a very welcome change :)
althought its still too early to tell.

I have this engine in an Idea and it goes like stink...over 205 KmH in Germany. I think it delivers a little more than the advertized 100 HP. :D

Anyway, I'll turn over 75000 miles in the next few days. It's mostly reliable. I just replaced the water pump. I've also had symtoms like you would get from a bad EGR valve. This has happened four different times. The shortest was for just a few days, the longest for over a month. The engine does not want to accept throttle and accelerating is an adventure, to say the least. It also generates a lot of heavy smoke. Once up to speed (most of my driving is on the motorways), it runs well enough. Another oddity is that the engine gets up to operating temperature from a cold start while in this situation MUCH quicker than normal for whatever reason. In all four cases, the problem solved itself without replacing the EGR or anything else.
