Mums just got back from work, she spoke to elephant. And they're phoning tomorrow to tell us the price of the car and we should have the cheque by next week!

Well impressed by their speediness!

Good news (y) So who was it saying all that stuff about not being covered  :p

Get well soon......:)confused: lol)

Was the get well soon to the car?

I dont know, but when it happened two police cars came out and one of the guys said 'oh mate you're not covered thats illegal'

But the one who actually came back to fill in the details etc said he was talking rubbish and obviously had some thing to do with insurance. It got us worried though

Now we've just gotta wait for the price of it.

good idea that. there is a young lass near where i live and her 'daddy' bought her a porsche boxster as a present for passing her test, if you saw the amount of dents and scratches that this car had, you would think she had been off-roading it :(. she is often seen driving up a fast A road doing 90-100 mph, and its only going to be a matter of time before she kills someone (n)
:) see if she has a bf if she is that daft she might let you have this while she runs around in erm your car

Brothers 21 :) They wouldnt insure him in his own name due to a speeding offence and stupidly high insurance catagory for Evo.

David - he's still absolutly gutted about the car, he was totally in love with it. Nevermind atleast he's okay.

Now we Know why they dont insure!....... I still dont understand how someone can wrap a car around / into a Stationary object unless its a mechanical faliure....

I'm with the elephant too.. Does that mean (GOD FORBID) if something happens to the Milk Bottle i'll be given a 1.0l micra? I would rather drink the engine oil straight out my diesel's sump plug!

When my 1.4 Ibiza was written off I got a 1.8 brand spaking Focus with only 500 miles on the clock.

If they tried to deliver a Micra to me I'd refuse to let them drop it off the lorry.

haha a micra :D , my mum had one of the old skool ones as a hire car, was automatic :nono:

i dont think your bro is a sparky, i think he a drug dealer  , when i rolled up outside your house all i spotted was high performance sports cars and a strange yellow bubble type thing :p

he wasn't using nankang tyres was he

glad it all getting sorted :D

From what I understand, legally the main insured person of a car (named driver) must also be the main driver. I thought insurance companies did something to try and stop the scenarios of young drivers being insured on their own cars but through named drivers on their parents policies?

This legal position only applies in cases where the car is MAINLY USED by the named driver, and not by the person who took out the policy. If that is the case, then the insurance terms and conditions have been violated. If you look on the policy, it will have a named 'Main driver', and anyone else will simply be a 'named driver' (if a policy allows this).

Insurance companies will do anything to wriggle out of a claim, and if they get wind that the Evo was mainly driven by your brother and NOT by your mum (who I assume is insured as the main driver) then they have a just reason to withdraw cover and leave your brother/ mother liable.

There are reasons for insurance being so high for a 21 year old driving an Evo or a Scooby, namely that drivers under 25 are many times more likely to have an accident than older/ more experienced drivers. And newly qualified drivers are the highest risk of all. So really insuring a car through your mum's policy is kind of cheating the system, and every claim that is made just bumps up the premiums for everyone else.

In hindsight, if I'd been allowed to insure a 200bhp car back back when I was 21 I'd have been many more times likely to have an accident due to inexperience. Experience only comes with time, and I'm glad I was NOT able to afford to insure a high power car and managed to learn valuable road skills in a car that wouldn't get me into trouble.

For what it's worth, I passed my car test at 17 and my motorcycle test at 18. At 19 I had a Kawasaki GPz550, capable of nearly 130mph. Paid for by myself and insured in my own name (and that hurt at 19 - when I could actually get something other than 'no quote'!)

However, I do believe that there should be power limits for newly qualified and young drivers like they do with motorcycle licences. Get the experience first, build up a no claims bonus then get a higher performance vehicle when it becomes affordable to insure one.

I know younger drivers won't like me saying that, and I would have agreed with them when I was younger! But with the benefit of hindsight I'm glad that I had to start out with small and low powered cars. The experience I earned from driving like that was more valuable than any training money can buy.

Have fun with whatever car you have, but keep it legal and keep it safe!

PLEASE READ THE THREAD BEFORE COMMENTING!

The rear tyre blew.

4 wheel drive car, hard suspension, 35 mph, rear tyre blew = should still have stabilty as there should still be drive to 3 wheels. That's the whole point of a 4x4 rally style car...

I guess it didn't help that you said your brother already had a speeding conviction

If he'd been driving a 1.1 Punto and the tyre blew, he would have still hit the lamp post, so I don't think experience is relevantin this circumstance. No one knows when a tyre's about to pop.

For me personally, I wouldn't buy a powerful car for my first car. Nor an expensive car, as it's the car you're bound to bump and scrape the most. Which is why I had a £400 45bhp Uno for my first car. My second car had 60bhp, now my current car has 95bhp, and I intend to gradually increase the power with every car I buy until I end up with a Ferrari :D

My view may be a bit different to others but I think people should be encouraged to drive big cars rather than super mini's. Learnt in 1.7td, first car was a 1.4, 2nd car was a 1.9td.

If you learn in a bigger or more powerful car you learn to handle the power. If you drive around in a little car then you come into money and buy your first big car - thats when it all goes wrong.

If they had control of what cars under 21's could drive that means i couldnt have my beetle? Theres a 2.0 engine in the Evo and in my beetle. And no one would say it was crazy i was allowed to drive my car.

Which actually is a fair point, bloody drunk drivers shouldn't be allowed cars at all

I passed at 19, I learnt in a 1.6 Focus and bought a 1.6 Tipo and I haven't crashed into anything yet and I still own it at 22.

Not meanin to blow me own saxamaphone but I could drive anything* with ease, it's down to dicipline at the end of the day. I don't think youth should be discriminated against, everyone should be given an equal opportunity until they prove they are not capable then they should be made to suffer, not suffer, have a minor scrap then suffer some more.

*long as it was a four wheel car and not a crazy truck or something.. but I'd still give it a go :D

EDIT: You should both find a Mc Donalds Car Park or another large empty car park and practice your handbrake turns, wheelspins and J-Turns :D

OT yes but this thread made me say it, instead of olders drivers having more experience I think the better driving has a lot to do with maturity i.e. your 18 and overtake everything and think it's great then your 25 or 30 and can't be arsed overtaking and you just sit at NSL.

@ Lora aka Hottie - is your bro getting another 7?

Oh dont make me mad. This thread was about a micra. You have no right to judge me or my brother.

If a tyre blows the car is going to veer to side correct? So with it being 4WD does this make a difference? (correct me if i'm wrong i, afterall know nothing about cars.) He was NOT speeding, the police attended the scene and have worked it out from the skid marks that he was doing 35 (have i not already said that?)

The Evo has been inspected and it has been found that the rear tyre blew and this was the cause of the accident. so why are you so caught up on him speeding? He'd just come off a roundabout onto a single track road.

My brother had a speeding conviction from a year ago when he did 46 in a 40 and got caught by a gatso i dont see any relevance to that and this crash.

Yes its cheating the system but I'm doing that aswell. I'm insured in my mums name because i cant justify paying £2k on insurance.

Liam - thanks ;) No he's getting a erm (should i pretend its something sensible?) porsche boxster.

Gaz - to my knowledge he's not a drug dealer :p And he wsnt running nankangs at the time :)

Its really annoying when these threads turn like this :shakehead

So a Porsche Boxter eh?? Have you turned him into VAG addict aswell?!!
Tell me about it. I thought it would just make people laugh about the micra being the best car they had :p

I dont know why he wants a Boxster it's a bit girlie wouldnt you say. But nothings set in stone, if a similar Evo came up he'd jump at it :) (he had this one imported for him and he doesnt want to go through that again!)
