Following a reasonably new 169 Panda 4x4 on my commute. Something about it set off the "bodge detector" just didn't look right and then I realised some cretin at the supplying dealer had drilled the number plate into the rear door..at an angle. Top Job..that's showing the attention to detail Fiat dealers are known for..

if that was my car I could not un-see that..

I had a job in Wokingham yesterday, due there for 9am. No idea what the traffic on the M4 would be like, so arrived early, about 8:15. Trundled around the estate, like most modern estates, difficult to park. Found a parking spot, far enough away from a corner, (certainly beyond the 10m recommended in the Highway Code), plenty of scuffs on the kerb indicating the locals park there. Beside a garden wall, so not outside anyone's front door. Sat there, re-reading the job instructions, not paying much attention to movements outside. Around 8:30, a car stopped beside me. I was apparently slow to respond, so he parped his horn. (Anyone not yet up would be pleased. And a traffic offence) I looked up to see his passenger window open next to my window, so I wound mine down.
Him: "You're a driving instructor and you've parked there." (Is that a question, or a statement? Was he telling me in case I was unaware of who I am and where I was?)
Me: "It would appear so."
Him: "And you think that's a good place to park?"
Me: "I thought it was better than parking in the middle of the road, blocking it, and shouting at people."
Pause
Him: "I only shouted at you once."
Me: "Are you upset because you arrived around the corner too fast for the view, and think that might be my fault?"
He drove away. Going to have a grumpy day I think.

I wonder does he speak to the the cars that usually park there, or knock doors and complain to the owners?

New car for the week.

It's actually not a bad little car- it's got quite a growl for a 1l and is fairly peppy. Feels more subdued than my 500 and a bit more civilised. Also has aircon which helps haha.

Yeah but I've also had the Peugeot/Citroen one with the 82 bhp 3 cyl engine, that's got a similar power to weight ratio to a mk1 punto sporting and is verging on a being a bit of a laugh.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the 67bhp Toyota, though the amount of lean when you lean on it suggests that's probably enough.

Driving home from work tonight through Cambridge, and a white ford connect van comes towards me in the traffic with 4 very obvious Lidar scanners spinning furiously on each corner of the roof and an array of cameras on the edges of the roof, at is goes past I see “APPLE MAPS” written on the rear quarter panel. A quick google (ironic) later when home and find that APPLE are currently 3D scanning and 3D photographing the whole country at the moment, there is even a website to tell you where the vans will be operating.

So expect to find a 3D scan of my punto coming to Apple maps soon

Bold of you to assume that anyone uses Apple Maps ;)

I have carplay in my golf (as do seemingly all new cars now) so if you want to use satnav you have to use Apple maps (if you have an iPhone, otherwise it’s android auto and google maps).

These days Apple maps is pretty damn accurate when it comes to satnav data.

There is not a lot to be gained from 3D mapping streets other than to make a pretty app, but there are the theories flying about that Apple are developing autonomous cars the reasons for 3D mapping might be to bring them up to scratch with those who have been mapping for years. The van itself definitely stood out covered in spinning tops and gadgets

Woke up to an unusual 'heavy buzzing' noise.
Neighbour across the road was pumping up his tyres, all of them, with his little 12v compressor. Usually does this every Sunday afternoon.

If he needs to do this every week, at what point during the week are his tyres underinflated to the point of illegal, dangerous, or just increased wear? Time for an alloy wheel refurb perhaps. This is a 2009 Seat.

Need to sort a friend's radio in her 2005 Yaris. A strange two-piece job, with the upper with the display and controlling the radio and the lower part being the main box and the CD unit.
Display shows almost nothing, CD player gives very poor sound quality.
So, I need to know if they are coded together, and/or coded to the car, before I go searching for replacements.
Went onto a Toyota forum, not been there since 2003 when seeking help with a 1990 Camry. Very poor setup. No sections except vehicle. Just trawl hundreds of pages on the offchance you might see something relevant. The search function is general, so brings up results from the whole site, not just the section you're in.

Three cheers for FiatForum. The best there is!

A friend of mine had a 2001 yaris back in the day ( i think its essentially the same as the 2005 model) I seem to think that the CD player part is (or at least was in 2001) just a CD player and the upper part did everything else.

Can't remember any issues regarding coding, I only know because he bought it brand new and then a few weeks later went back to the dealer to have the CD player added.

Mot day...

currently doing "the wait" odd that this feeling has never altered despite the cars getting newer and better put together!

Ah well got one of these to play with.

I like these, had them last 3 services, drive lovely.

Fitted my bike lock alarm to my trailer two hours ago and it has been set off three times already.

Twice by a local cat (the same one twice the little furry feline) and once by someone who was looking at how it was locked by a huffin' great bike chain wrapped round a tree and the "A" frame at the hitch end.

:bang:

When you get up tomorrow morning, someone will have had the tree away!

So MOT has been and gone. Pass with no work and serviced for another year so woop, 178 quid in total from a main agent..but work looming.

Rear droplinks are worn (mot advisory)..but the roads are terrible and I actually asked them to investigate a click at the rear when mounting a kerb (very slowly I like round tyres) so that will be that then. Not broken or dangerous..just a little worn but on the to do list it goes.

Also not an MOT advisory but the sump seal is misted with oil. It's never dripped off the bottom, and I hadn't noticed it dropping on the dipstick either given it's sat at max for the last 12 months. Very much on MEH list this one unless it does something extreme it's fine.
