FF Monaco F1 GP trip

If you're worried about driving to Monaco, there are alternatives. You can travel by train or catch a plane to Nice etc, you don't have to drive, but I am going to.

There's European breakdown cover.

Anyways, I love the sound of this. The one of driving straight there, the most, as that becomes the most fun.

Count me in please (probably + 1 more).

Information Regarding 2007 Grand Prix

The Monaco tourist board have sent me some information. I will be sifting through it, and posting the pertanant details soon.

Nice one Alex (y)

The way i see it, if we are going as a convoy we will all make sure that each other member is OK, we are not going to leave anyone behind if there's a problem and one way or another we will sort it out. BUT if the inevitable happens, that person will be responsible for the cost of the repairs etc, so that will need to be considered in the budgeting of the trip for each individual.

Taking this into acount will mean we will have to leave at least 3-4 days before the actual GP so we can allow for any problems.

What I suggest is that everybody take out Fully comprehensive european breakdown cover. This means that the breakdown company will give you a hire car, cover extra accommodation charges, and repatriate your vehicle if the worst happens.

I did look into this yesterday (friday) to see if I could get group cover, but it wasn't possible with either the AA or RAC. But it wasn't that expensive, about £40 extra on top of your anual breakdown premium, but you need to have an individual quote done for your cars. That was based on a 1998 Barchetta... IT WILL BE MINE.

ALSO: a note on parking at monaco, it is possible to reserve parking spaces for about €20 per day. I'm making some PDF copies of the stuff that I got today and will make them available as soon as they're ready.

EVEN BIGGER UPDATE!!!

65th Monaco Grand Prix (2007) 24th-27th May 2007

EDIT: This is not confirmed, but I bet it won't move.

Sounds good to me.

But if a breakdown does occur I think we have an obligation to wait for that person to be sorted out so he/she can rejoin the convoy and not be left alone.
Is this just me being over parental of is it what should be done ?
A long journey like this for some people with less reliable motors would be very foreboding, and knowing that they will not be left alone would be a major factor in them coming along. As long as everyone involved takes out the Fully comprehensive european breakdown cover as Alex suggests. If anyone is naive enough to omit to take it out, then they would then be responsible for themselves, and would forfeit the right to be included in the convoy from that point, and would be responsible only for themselves, and it would be up to that individual to get to/from Monaco on their own.

Does this sound reasonable ??

Yes KoA, with regards to waiting for somebody who has broken down, provided the trip is well organised we should arrive in plenty of time to allow for a long delay (i.e. overnight if somebody needs to have a renatal car organised for them).

On the note of rental cars. anybody who will be UNDER 25 should ensure that their breakdown cover will cover them for the rental car, sometimes in the terms and conditions young drivers are exempt from this priviledge.

Provisional Itinerary for the Grand Prix Trip

This is based on everybody driving and can be found here: Itinerary

It seems that the sensible rout to take will be:

Folkston -> Calais
Calais -> Reims
Reims -> Dijon

We'll have an over night stop in Dijon

Dijon -> Lyon
Lyon -> Nice (via Marseille)

And the reverse on the return journey. This rout is not avoiding tolls. I think the figure was €82 in each direction.

You will see that we're due to arrive ready for the Thursday F1 practice session, however I would like to arrive the day before and have an extra day in monaco before the Grand Prix, i.e. starting the journey on the 21st May 2007. KoA expressed interest in doing the same, however, we must do what the majority want (within reason) in order to keep everybody togther. Currently the trip will require you to book 6 nights in Nice, and 2 nights in Dijon (one at the beginning and end of the trip).

On the note of hotels/accommodation: Whilst I'm not going to book acommodation for anybody (unless we can get a group discount or there is a definate benefit), and we're a long way from that stage yet, please let me know where you've booked, as a guide to others, and so that everybody knows how to get in contact with you whilst in Nice. It would be nice to get everybody in the same place but again this will be down to individual budgets.

If you don't wish to drive to Nice, you can catch EasyJet, BMI, BA AirFrance etc... flights directly to Nice from most major airports.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me, or post here.

This is of course assuming there will be a Monaco F1 GO in 2007, following todays events!

This is true... I think there will, hopefully the events of the USA grandprix will lower the ticket price, but I fear not for Monaco.

As i said in the PM, Nice job figuring out all the stuff Alex (y)

i'll buy you a few beers when we get there mate, because without you this sort of stuff may never get sorted. I'm having a really busy time at the moment so my input is pretty useless. Thank god your here mate (y)

As this is something that will go ahead, we are going to need a lot of opinions from those that are going and we will need to sort out a lot of details and personal preferences. This will mean polls that should be made public but only votes from those that are possibly going should be considered. There are going to be so many things that need sorting and for such an ambitious trip/project/dream i think it would be a good idea if all of these things were kept in a dedicated area, as we will need to do a lot of cross referencing.

Is there any way we can get this sorted and for a mod to put this thread in there too ?

In the past there have been threads all over the place on different subjects to do with the previous FF meets and it's confusing when you come in at a late stage and may have missed a lot of details. This is a FF meet way beyond the complexity of any before it...

So pretty please could a Mod possibly get this sorted for us (y)

Very interested in this idea. Also like the idea of getting to monaco a day early.

Here is the updated itinerary, updated to include the extra day in Nice/Monaco. Again this is not a definite itinerary, and would be a 7 night stay in Nice, with 2 over night stops one getting there, and the other one getting back.

Definately up for getting there a day early(would be nice to have a wander round first). I would still prefer camping though as it'll be a quarter of the cost, as for stop overs I think I'll just sleep in the car. (y)

I don't think sleeping in the car will be an option for me :D Unless my car suddenly turns itself into a camper with 4 beds:D

:yuck: not for me Alex :D
I may consider hiring a car for the trip though :) Or maybe we should get Stu to lend us his yacht and we can sip champagne in the harbour for the weekend :D
