I didn't say on an empty motorway, just when there are people about, here is key example - although I'm sure you'd say it would have made any difference :p

"I always indicate on lane changes"

I still believe if you're overtaking one truck on the motorway with nothing anywhere near you then there's no need to indicate.

;)

Which assumes you've seen any other traffic. What about that small dark coloured car / motorcyclist entering from the slip road / hard-shoulder... the view of which was obscured by the lorry you've just overtaken ? ;)

I was taught the same right enough, for lane changes you only need to signal if there is someone near you who might benefit from your signal... but I tend to signal anyway, just in case... maniacs pop-up out of nowhere these days.

Besides, signalling anyway is good practice, and gets you into the habit. How many people do we all see F*****G daily that don't signal before cutting you up, turning, stopping, exiting RAs, etc etc. :bang:

If I had a pound for every one of those.... :yum:

As a sidenote, the lane-change function on the newer Puntos, and probably I imagine pandas, 500s, 500Ls, etc... is a god-send. No more forgetting to cancel the signal.... although, for months after I got the car I thought it was broken :D

Yep,

I always indicate on lane changes, its a pet hate of mine those that don't - @dombooth can probably remember this from a thread on here a few months back ;)

Had someone comment on youtube that I exited the roundabout in the wrong lane, I'm sure @sludgeguts would confirm that I came off in the correct lane, considering how many cut him up doing what 'Fuzz944' in the comments said I should have done.
Those roundabouts were designed for that scenario - it looks like a dual carriageway - so enter in either lane - as long as you keep to the lane & exit in the same lane- which you did.

Much of what we do behind the wheel is/should be automatic. The more you do without thinking, the more brain capacity you have to deal with the important stuff - like watching out for all the p1llocks on the roads.
Do you know when to change gear - or do you watch your speed/rev counter? You should know where to find each gear in the box without looking down at the gearknob.
I always signal, always have - it's an automatic function. Since owning the Doblo, I've had to concentrate on cancelling the signal (since it doesn't always do it itself) - and this is also, now, automatic.
In the same way that I scrutinise my mirrors when negotiating a turn - years of driving big vehicles does that to you - just a pity more people aren't taught this way.
Many seem to assume that because they are a cockhair ahead of you, it gives them some sort of God-given right to wander all over the road...

On my wishlist for the perfect dashcam is a DVR with remote lenses. I'd mount the recorder under my dash - so it would pick up the sound of the indicator relay & muffle any music or conversations.
If @MEP's scenario had been worse, his insurance would've been in no doubt whatsoever that he was indicating & exactly when (compared to when the undertake took place).

My GP had a lane-change function on the indicators and I'm fairly sure out mk2 Punto has it (although I don't drive it often so I'm not sure...) its not a very new feature

My Bravo does, but Stilo and Mk3 panda doesn't. Bravo does 5 flashes which is just right imo, 500 I had only done 3 though :(

Yes, would be nice if you could wire it into brake lights, headlights and indicators, with a video over lay, so it can show what the external vehicle lighting is doing at any one point. Always though this personally, and would be the first to buy one if it becomes available :)

In which case I would have anticipated the entry slip and not moved over until I had passed it.

I'm sorry but no, very little you do in a vehicle should be automatic.

Do I need to move back into lane 1? Yes as there's nothing else to overtake.

Do I need to move back into lane 1? No, as there's another HGV 200 yards in front and very few cars behind me.

Do I need to indicate that I'm parking? No because there's no-one else on the road when I got home at 1am.

IMO and plenty of others, everything you do whilst driving should be thought about and linked together to form a 'driving plan'.

Still without indicating ?

No-one else that you've seen, you mean ?

You're making the assumption that you know 100% for sure that you've definitely observed any possible hazards... cars, motorcycles, cyclists, pedestrians - at night it's probably most important for the latter two.

Out of interest, in town / village / suburb / wherever... you're driving along, there's nobody else about (that you can see), you want to turn left / right... do you just not bother indicating ?

Why would I indicate not changing lanes?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, it depends on that exact situation at the time.

Anyway, I'm sure I remember us having this conversation previously and we never got anywhere. Lets agree to disagree and get some videos posted. (y)

No excuse IMO.

Driver reported to the company, transport manager for this area will contact me within 24 hours.

UPDATE:

Driver has been suspended pending investigation.

The driver claimed that he didn't see the red light. :ROFLMAO:

Transport manager has very nicely asked me to remove the video, so I will do.
If he hadn't asked nicely it would stay but he's a very down to earth kind of guy. :)

Update to the 'Harvey' driver who almost took off my front end on the roundabout.
got an email from their admin & HR manager on 4th Nov.
"Thank you for your emails of the 24th October 2013 and the 1st November 2013.

We have viewed your video and investigated the matter with the driver in question. We have dealt with this matter internally and taken the appropriate action to ensure this does not happen again."

I sent an email on 1st, pointing out THEIR policy of replying within 2 days.

@Ziggy "Back to Driver ED he goes" There are some drivers who really don't deserve that chance - that van driver could've done some serious damage - wrong side of the road, going at speed, through red lights...

Same with my 'Harvey' driver. There are plenty of drivers who approach that roundabout in the right hand lane, knowing that they want to go straight on & knowingly overtaking a long queue of traffic - but the good/better ? ones will stay in the right hand lane & simply go all the way around the roundabout - at least they aren't cutting anyone up!

A similar scenario was discussed much earlier & many said - if I'm in the wrong lane I would go all the way around rather than cut someone up.
