Hi, I am a manager at a Toby Carvery and need to hire a van for work. Only problem is i'm only 20 years old.

Google hasn't been very helpful and everyone keeps saying stuff along the lines of "if you are under 25 it's too expensive"... cost doesn't matter as Mitchell & Butlers would be paying for it as it's for work.

Anyone know any companies or sites?

Cheers in advance

Indeed it will be extremely difficult to find a company who will rent any vehicle to anyone under 21, like you say most want over 25.

I think Stu's suggestion might be your only option

I only need it for a day. Surely there is a service out there that is available if people are prepared to pay?

nope, not for under 25s so forget it, guidlines and criteria have been in place for years, same with short term insurance, which you also cant get if you are under 21

Anyway if you havent been a uk liscence holder for three years you might not even qualify reagrdless of your age as three years minimum in any short term insurance, but your age is your fall here

Who is paying for it to be insured is irrelevent, rather the experience of the driver on the road - they are obviously not cars, they need wider turns and obviously no rear view mirror or back window, some people cant even reverse cars let alone vans

Your best bet is small local firms, I tried to hire a van last week from some of the big names and none of them had any vans in the south east available any time soon!

Most have 21 as the absolute min age but advertise 25. Man in a van might be your only option.

Failing that - I come and collect you, we go hire a van, you pay, we do whatever it is you need doing. Then following Sunday myself SWMBO, her sister, kid and parents turn up eat carvery for free with a pint of softdrink each and we're on our way ;)

What im referring to is different from what you are doing

When i say short term i mean 24hr companies not companies that insure you for a week/few weeks etc which is probably what you are doing with your dads car? Thats all fine anyone can do that

What you wouldnt have been able to do is insure your dads car for 24hrs with a company like dayinsure.com in the 3 instances before your 21st birthday

Haha, I think something like that may be the only option. Only flaw to that plan is at the moment I am working in the new Toby Express in West Quay (which is the first trial site of it's kind) rather than a standard sit down Toby like in Pompy or Bishopstoke.

I revise my offer to 2x large roast beef sarnies, two pots of spud and two large drinks!
