At the risk of getting kicked off this thread, and replying....

IE is ****, its a fact. Mozilla is one of the only decent browsers out there, quick and reliable.... I am guessing that you haven't even tried firefox, otherwise you would not post such a silly comment (n) :shakehead :nono: :nutter: :p

Re: how come this forums is always quiet??

I tried opera, which many people also say is better than IE, no, there's nothing better than IE unless you want to fiddle around with a load of crap. The best thing about Opera is that I can delete it fully and forget I ever installed it whereas obviously you don't get that choice with IE.

Nothing is more widely used, widely compatible and as well supported as IE.

The single and ONLY reason why the majority of people use firefox/opera etc. is because they think it's cool to be difference, some users make use of some of the options that help advanced users but apart from that, IE rules the joint.

Stu, care to comment? :D

okay, your right there...opera is poo (worse than IE ;) )

IE is the most widely used for one reason, its microsoft...and is on most computers when they are bought. Mozilla is definately quicker, and just as easy to use as IE. You don't need to set anything up, after installing it, it just works.

I am not one of these people who hate microsoft, or anything like that. I changed when IE was messing up on my computer.

I have tried Opera, but not firefox, so will not argue that one!

HOWEVER, I have no needs or desires to change from IE - it is used at work, and it is used at home. Jules never really used PCs before I built this machine, so I am not going to change it now.

Plus it runs fast enough for me on this machine. I also use eBay toolbar, which doesn't plugin to other browsers [or didn't with Opera].

I can't see any benefit to changing to something else, basically.

Re: how come this forums is always quiet??

Quicker only a prodlem on an older computer, no browser could be quicker on my PC and net connection so irrelevant to me.

WHo cares if that's the reason? In this case it's the best, just like Norton is possibly the best, it maybe "bloatware" but most of the industry accepts it's one of the best.

You just don't like IE because you want to be different like most others :p

How do you mean "easier to use", how can you get easier than IE? I don't have to set anything up with IE either.

Re: how come this forums is always quiet??

See, at least Dave has an excuse.

A quote from Penn State's browser test:

Firefox: Firefox is a small, lightweight browser that is still in a beta release. It appears to show promise for the future, but is not nearly mature enough to be considered stable or fully functional. The team suggests that Firefox not be supported or recommended for the coming year, but some team members liked it enough that we would suggest taking another look at it during future evaluations.

There comments about IE:

Internet Explorer: IE 6 remains at the forefront of browsers on the PC platform, due in part to its familiarity and ubiquitous presence on Windows PCs. It also scored highly on most tests. Even though it remains our suggestion for supported and recommended status on the PC, it is beginning to show its age when compared to newcomers like Mozilla, particularly in the area of desired features, such as pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing. IE is also known to have security issues. Still, it remains a popular choice among users. On the Mac, however, IE has been left behind and has not been developed as much as it has for the PC. We suggest that IE is neither recommended nor supported for the Mac, except for OS 9.2.x, where there are few viable alternatives and we suggest that it maintains a recommended and supported status.

With SP2 that's not as much an issue :D

Re: how come this forums is always quiet??

Where did i prove it can't compete?

The problems they state have been much improved since SP2

Sorry, i can't comment on SP2 as it was the thing that started all my troubles with IE. It was on a win 2000 computer. I then got 'netscape' which imo is easily the worst out of them all. Ever since its been Firefox all the way.

Re: how come this forums is always quiet??

I tried running firefox, there was one thing that REALLY p155ed me off, the lack of autocomplete in the address bar. You need to press down and enter rather than just enter. I know its small, but its the little things that make the difference.

I cannot see how firefox can possibly be quicker - its just the same as those software packages that claim to increase your download speed by 1000%, IMPOSSIBLE.

The browsing speed is controlled by YOUR net connection and YOUR computer. Every operating system from win95 SR2 has IE integrated into the shell, so your computer will only run slower by installing firefox.

anyway, thats only my opinion.

fair enough, but on my computer...it is noticeably faster. I think that the browser can be faster even though the internet connection is the same.....

i did a quick google search...got a few links

i'm not sure at all though.

Its a case of conditioning, which ever works for you and of course your computer.
