Hi Guys,

So on sunday me and the GF are going to scotland for about a week.
We are going in her MX5 and going up the west coast (dont know how far yet, depends on time) then across to the east coast and down.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend anywhere to go or anything to do or even any roads to drive. As ive only ever been once and that was edinburgh.

Any help appreciated

J

Bring your coat. It's September in Scotland - it's going to be raining!

On a serious note if your up the A9 then the distillery at Dalwhinnie is worth a visit, as in The House of Bruar (posh shopping place - good place for a bite to eat).

Be careful on the A9. Accident rates are quite alarming due to the nature of the road. My mother and I were almost killed by numpties trying to overtake a que of cars behind a lorry. It's happend too many times before. Just don't try anything risky.

That said though I'd reccomend the Fife Coastal tourist route on the east coast on the way down and reccomend even highly a visit to the town of Anstruther. That's where the best fish and chip shop in scotland lies.

Since it's not worth the effort to follow up with a witty remark for the likes of you.

Yeah the distillery is called Dalwhinnie. Its in the middle of Dalwhinnie - tbh all there is there is a hotel, a shop, petrol station, a few houses and of cource the distillery itself (y) House of Bruar is between there and Dunkeld.

http://www.discovering-distilleries.com/dalwhinnie has more info.

I'm out

If you want a really good night and you are in the area at the weekend, you gotta stay at

www.thedroversinn.co.uk

Don't expect posh, just a rollicking good time.

Let me know if your coming, the first round is mine.

Cheers

SPD

Another hour up the road and you've got www.clachaig.com/ well worth a visit on a saturday night for the live music. The restaurant is very nice too. Cheap campsite and hostel just down the road.

Damned i miss Scotland - wish I could get up there more often (n)

You must do the A82 through Glencoe to Fortwilliam. If in FortWilliam check out Neptunes Staircase at Corpach and also go up the Gondola in the Nevis range, also the steam train used in the Harry Potter films, also check out the Glenfinnan monument nearby.

Fort William to Fort Augustus up the shore of Loch Ness.

Inverarity also lovely

If you want to get really remote the Applecross Pass, Hope you have a head for heights, (A82 - A87 - A890 - A896 until Tornapress where the turn off to The Applecross pass is signposted.) (work out the miles to travel to check you have time)

Also Pitlochry (A9) nice walk round the loch created by the Hydro Dam and not too far to walk.

On the East coast its less mountains and more beautiful coastline, check out Dunnottar Castle near Stonehaven, travel south through Montrose with its wide High Street, widest main street in Scotland and my home town and don't miss Anstruther in Fife and of course Edinburgh. (Royal Mile, Arthurs Seat)

Yes take your waterproofs, but the sunshine can surprise you. Ignore the Luddities who tell you to stay at home.

Did a 3 day hike around the Fort William area and was packed for wind and rain. Ended up with the 3 hottest summer days for years. Ended up in shorts and tee shirts and a very heavy pack with all my 'winter' clothes in it!

Beware the midgies.
