I am sure most of you will agree that Labour did a decent thing today (well, the government as a whole) in banning fox hunting.

Stupid House Of Lords, what a load of

I find it so amusing that anybody can try to argue with the inhumane killing of animals.

One of my problems is also the people who do it; for thinking that they can do what they want, i.e. kill a fox. I also do have feelings about the poor fox.

Kirsty, please tell me you're not pro-hunting??

You guys are on form tonight :p

Yeah I'm pro-hunting...that is as far as I'll go tonight. I've already got a load of people on my case due to another of my unpopular views.

HAHA, well you are from the ruling clarsses. I don't believe anybody with a brain cell can have such a viewpoint, it's f-ing inhumance and despite any other points in advantage of it, that's going to overcome them all.

Oh and it will be banned in 3 months so i win :p

I apologise but good debate is good :)

However, this anti-hunting side has finally won, partially because around 95% of people agree with that argument and partially because in this case the government knows what's best for us.

I am surprised at Kirsty, she seems like a girl with her head screwed on and not indoctorinated by her class/peers/family but this goes against that.

people don't seem to have such an issue with fishing and in my opinion that's just as inhumane...entertainment wise drag hunting would make for a better ride but it won't keep so many people in jobs...meh there are a lot of arguments for and against but I think the class issue is a load of b0llocks. And at the end of the day we lost so there's no point arguing now anyway...

I love fishing :D anyway its not that inhumane, research has shown that fish have little or no feeling in their lips anyway and the benefits for the fish (i.e. regular feeding both from bait and fishery owners, disease treatments in commercial lakes etc) far outweigh the negatvies (occasional short-term stress and arguably a little pain).

Sorry ghost :)

Ah yes, fishing is like chasing a dog around the country side until it nearly dies of exhaustion and then gets ripped apart by hounds.....

AFAIK (I am not into fishing) You will find that people who catch fish and kill them eat them and others that don't kill them throw them back....Fishing does far more for the area than against it, it keeps the lakes and rivers with enough money to not fall into disrepair so others can enjoy them too. Inhumane...I think not.

It's something that bothers me because everybody always talks about every single inhumane case to a horse or dog but never about those foxes because the ruling classes are too "hot to handle" for the government. Today was a victory not just about hunting but about people power over the ruling classes, that's one of the best things about it. Shame on the Lords for constantly refusing it rather than comprimising.

I love fishing...Its a free and good dinner for me (y)
Problem is, I just cant be arsed unless its off the side of a harbour im huge swell or something- gotta be a good laugh. Not the usual sat next to a lake...needs beer!!

Right here goes, this is going to get messy as you say but I don't see many people objecting to these debates.

Firstly I'm (just about) on your side Paul. If there were a vote tomorrow, I would ban foxhunting.

However (you're not going to like this), I think this comment is well out of order and I would like to back Kirsty up here whatever her views:

Clearly this falls short of personal abuse but this is completely unecessary and is not having a debate of any kind. We can see what your views are by what you have to say on the subject there is no need to lay into those who do not support that view. It doesn't achieve anything because it's only going to annoy those people and not change their views. I hope it doesn't put people off from posting their argument because I for one would be more than happy to listen to their views whether I agree with them or not rather than effectively dismiss them before I have heard them.

I'm sorry to be so harsh and I'd like to make it clear that it is this sort of post and not this specific post that I take issue with, but I feel about this every bit as strongly as I do about the actual issue in question. (So sorry Paul)

So onto foxhhunting then, and to be honest I feel that those of us who are townies (and I suspect few on here can claim to be of a truly rural background) don't get enough information about it on the news, however from my viewpoint I can't see the point in it. I'm not personally worried about the foxes in particular but if people are foxhunting for pleasure and not purpose as appears to be the case I can't see any reason for it to be allowed in view of anti-cruelty issues.
