Basically I went for nice training ride today on my road bike in the winter sun and this Citroen C5 was stop starting and all over the place for no reason, so I overtook him on my bike and as I went past I shouted "Wake up mate!"

He then drove after me and as he drove past, with his passenger side wing mirror tapping my right arm, the passenger shouted, "How much ****ing road tax do you pay you peice of ****? Get off the ****ing road!"

It really made me jump and went "Oooh, **** off!" in startled manner, the car then swerved and pushed me into the hedge/wall where I was stuck between the car and wall unable to move, he then jumped out pinned me some more and planted one on my nose, causing a good old nose bleed.

I had three witnesses and the police are involved and taking it seriously, after assault with a car and his fist!

I didn't retaliate as I knew there were witnesses!!

not good! ive had more than my fair share of runs ins with cars when im on the bike
most recently i had to help a guy as i saw he was getting 'chased' by 2 guys in a car
i was in the work van and evened up the numbers for him
they were not so brave when they lost their numbers/car advantage ;)

What is the world coming to......tis all i can say really. hope your nose is not too bent and they get what they deserve

dunno whats its like round your way but its dog eat dog here
TBH the biggest issue for me is the cyclists who just ignore the highway code as it suits them
just yesterday i saw a guy cut over 4 lanes and end up cycling the wrong way up the road in the dark with no lights!

dont mouth of to people if you cant back it up

:yeahthat: was going to say, was there really any need to say anything in the first place to the citroen driver?

Not condoning the actions which followed, but it would surely have all been avoided should not a word had been said by you in first place

But then the half-asleep driver might have hit him anyway or someone else through his inattention. It really is no different to a car horn/ flash to make the driver aware of your presence.

:worship:

yeah, i can imagine that if he was not shouted at then he could have easily mounted the kerb and hit someone.. telling someone of is just the same as flashing your light or honking the horn.. imagine if people got out and hit others every time we honked our horn to warn them..

i think what gaz did is right and i would have done the same...

Thats shocking but not new,

Im fairly into road bikes, I have my own italian hand built Carrea Podium. My dad was out near Carlisle last year on the Main Carlisle - Newcastle road near the airport and he got pushed over by a c*** in a BMW, this was on a major nasty A roady accident black spot thing.

I bet these prats have never head that is one of the few sports Britian is any good at...

Bit hard to back it up when you got 2 tonnes of car pinning you against the wall, he ran off when I managed to get an arm free and hold both of his arms out of the way and starting to get the upper hand.

He was in the wrong by slamming his brakes on front of me. Look up the road on google earth, its the B3306 from St Ives to St Just and I was just out side a hamlet called Zennor and riding sensibly, I allways look out for other cars and do not take any risks as I wish to see my daughter grow up!

I only asked the guy to "Wake up!" and I'm the one that gets assaulted!

Takes a "Big man" to pin someone against the wall in a car and then hit him, don't it?

I'm 6ft 3 inches and quite muscular and would have easily have had him if I was bike free and not attached to my pedals with my new Look/SPD sl kleets!!

I had trouble on my bike all the time, I used to be able to cut through the traffic and get away though. I did have someone try and knock me off my bike once before but again i had the power to get away and leave him behind. When i used to ride a smaller bike i had the brains to know to keep my mouth shut even if they were inconsiderate blind ****s behind the wheel :)

It wasn't me  But to be fair that is a major bit of dual carriageway, almost motorway standards - not where you expect to see a bike pootling while flying along and then someone swerves to avoid them, straight into the person in the right-hand lane. Bicycles would be safer on the military road (y)

Apparantly it was like 6:15 am on a bank hols so I would be fairly quiet, and its not as bad as the A66 on the coast to coast thats almost lethel...

Probably nothing to do with being a cyclist, just the guy being a dick, when I was 18 I got chased in my car by a guy in a granada after overtaking him in my little chevette. He chased me, overtook me, and tried to stop me by emergency braking in the middle of the road, I escaped by feigning an overtaking manuevre and then driving into a housing estate as he accelerated to stop me passing. I later found out this nutcase was a known phsycho and carried a shotgun in his car.
There are nutters out there who just look for trouble
