Yesterday i happened to be looking out the window and saw a taxi reversing and

BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Straight into my car :bang: :bang: :bang:

He pushed my car about a foot or so when he banged into it I had just had a bath and was still in my nightie

I ran outside started shouting and swearing at him but couldnt look at the car cos i was half dressed, H went to go and check the damage and told me there wasnt any damage. I said infront of both of them - that i didnt believe there wasnt any damage as he hit my car hard enough to make it move over a foot

The guy left his firm card and when i was dressed I went to look at the car and where the number plate is the bumper is split (n)

My bumper has a couple of really old cracks on it from the dosey woman who had the car before me.

I am in two minds what to do, H said to leave it its not worth the hassle. But then again he caused damage to my car cos he was concentrating on lighting his fag than where he was going :bang: :bang: :bang:

he didnt say anything on record or sign anything so you'll be fine, and its your car and insurance too so H is irrelevant., id go to the taxi place and get his insurance details straght away, i wouldnt have let him leave until i had them.,
then go to a friendly bodyshop and pic out all the littel things your car needs like painting handle, mirrors, new bumper and all that and get them to give you the quote for the damage he did with the other stuff included.,(y)

Bummer :(

If you do claim, remember you'll have to declare it at renewal time and even though it's not your fault, your premium may well go up (especially with the Admiral group (n))

How much for a new bumper from a scrappie?

i'd claim of them, it'll teachthem to be more careful and not smoke in the car, which personally i think is worse them using a moble while driving

Do you smoke? Have you ever tried smoking while driving?

From experience I'd have to disagree. Using a mobile is far more distracting than smoking. I smoked for 15 years in my car and never once did it cause any accidents or even near misses. Smoking/ lighting up was second nature, almost a subconscious action that required no conscious effort whatsover. Using a mobile in comparison would make me weave all over the place, and as every conversation was different I had to use conscious effort to think about what I was saying. This was distracting and drew my concentration away from the road.

I don't smoke any more and refuse to answer my phone when driving. Before it became illegal I stopped using my mobile in the car anyway as I knew it was too distracting. I don't even like hands free as I find them almost as distracting as holding a phone.

Sammi, you're best bet is to get a quote to check for any damage. If it isn't serious, I'd approach the Taxi company and suggest that they settle outside of the insurance. If they are happy with that then you'll get your car fixed and it won't affect yours and the taxi company's no claims bonus. If they refuse though, then depending on the damage you may have no choice but to make a formal claim.

Definitely get an estimate though to make sure that the damage is only limited to the bumper. Good luck!
