£729 quote and i'm 18 :)

hahaa,
i hope you are just jesting rangdo!, although i spose its just as illegal as fronting tbh :p

Guys i've been in a job since 2009, so theres no saying i don't have a job! I paid for the car , tax, battery, and now the insurance so anyone thinking im livving off mammy and daddy think again, because i work hard for my money...

So why can't you afford the insurance premiums legit people have to pay then?

I'll admit, i haven't read the whole thread.. but i am like many on here that want to go legit. I'm now 20 and pay £670 fully comp for my 1.2 Panda.. just so happens this is the first year i could afford to pay it off instead of paying monthly

It is the best way, to fork up the money when you're young so it goes down even two or three years after you've passed your test. My dad wouldn't let me on his insurance, i'm now glad i didn't!

That's the way I'm looking at it, I'm paying about £3000 now:cry: but hopefully that'll drop significantly in June when i get my first year of no-claims.

Admittedly I have borrowed a bit of money for insurance in the last couple of months because my work hours have been cut to almost a third of what they were, but I'm looking for more work and am hopefully going into the Army at some point in the next year so will earn more than enough to cover new car/insurance costs(y)

I'm only a new driver, those who are flaming me for affecting their premiums stop, i'm new and im just driving normally, not like some boy racer like some obviously think....
..

Whilst YOU might be the bestest driver in the whole wide world (and god love 'em, majority of young drivers believe they are), there's a whole world of muppets out there (just look at all the footage on youtube - and they are just from a minority of people who record journeys).

It only takes one nob to do something daft.
And believe me, THEY WILL blame you to get out of losing their insurance.
Unless you have loads of witnesses (or a dash cam) this will start an insurance investigation.

Good luck with your life.

Hang on a minute. I cant think of an Algorythm that makes a fronted person a scummer because you pay higher premiums. Statistically fronted people are less likely to claim.
The reason why the price of other peoples premiums go up is down to the money grabing insurance companies. They know they are missing out on a few quid so bump up prices to pay more dividends to share holders. This is standard business practice for any Plc and they would use something else if fronting didnt exist.
You cant blame 17-18 year olds for that. And why should they care about your premium. it may put £20 on your premium. It puts £2300 on theirs.

Unfortunately it is the backwardness of runing companies that causes problems. Be pissed at plc not the poor kids trying to get mobile.

Reasoning, costs, etc are just semantics. At the end of the day fronting is illegal - end of.

I'm sure we all have an explanation for why we went faster than the limit, does Mr Plod care?

Just hope I'm not shunted by a fronted car, his insurance says null and void, my insurance bears the cost of repairs to my car, pushing my premium up, then legal battles to try and recoup.

A car isn't a god-given right, its a privilege for those that can afford it, might not be fair but that's the way it is.

I'm changing the policy in the next month, asi'm finishing 6th form and moving into full time work... On top of the new insurance, i have to fork out £150 PER HOUR for pilot training.

Sludgeguts, you seem to be getting at me here, i've told you it's all sorted, you don't have to worry about your £20 bump up in insurance because of me.

i got a quote for £712 for my classic panda!
i'm 25 and a learner driver
the policy is in my name with my partner and mum as named driver
i declared that yes even though i am the policy holder my partner would be driving the car more than me (because of me only having a provisional licence) and it's used for business!

my recent look into insurance gives me the impression that it really comes down to how much damage that you as a driver can cause with the car your trying to insure! Thats why as a single mum i looked into what kind of car was cheapest to run maintain and to insure before i bought one! (plus it helped that i feel in love with the classic pandas)

as a new driver you know you are going to spend more on insurance and you also know that the only way to bring it down is with no claims! Thats one of the reasons i have waited so long to actually learn to drive because i'm 25 and a mother it also helps to lower my premiums i'm less of a risk! there are to many 17 -19 year olds out there that have punto's corsa's and similar cars that cost insurance company's thousands! i'm afraid the only way to get lower premiums is look into a cheap car to insure and prove your insurers wrong by getting your no claims!!!!

by any chance does any one know what the percentage of accidents are caused by new drivers (male and female of course :p)??

I think youd probably be covered by extended 3rd party liability 9 times out of 10 if that were to happen. Other than that I'd sue their ass.

Not without a load of agro first though. I was shunted back in November, the day before I was due to part-ex my car.

To avoid delays I paid my xs upfront knowing I'd get it back as it clearly wasn't my fault. Just as well I did, still waiting!!

3rd party is disputing, apparently while stationary waiting to turn left i changed lanes and cut him up. Just waiting now for the court date as the notice period set by my insurance has expired.

These companies will do anything to avoid paying, or maybe deferring paying until their new financial year. Bar-stewards.

In post 12 you said you were a sensible driver.
I am pointing out that you are not the only person on the road, I have 30+ years of blame free motoring but I have still put in a few claims over the years - the last one only went in my favour thanks to the dash cam.

In post 36 your last comment was "I'm not doing anything wrong", it seems a few would beg to differ.

I'm 18, own a black 1.2 punto standard

i changed it to my mam being the main driver and policy holder etc.. i put me as second driver.

That is conspiracy to defraud and if you are caught will see you and your mother at real risk of a jail sentence. With a conviction for fraud very few employers will want to take a chance with you and most professions won't even take you on as a student. the only way to escape conviction would be for you and your mother to tell lies on oath.

If caught out, and you will be unless your mothers bank account proves she spent her own money on the car, that will add a charge perverting the course of justice which also puts you at risk of jail.

If you don't believe me look up this case.
Scott v Metropolitan Police Commissioner (1974) 3 All ER 1032 The case didn't involve motor insurance but sets a precedent as to what has to be proved to secure a conviction for conspiracy to defraud. It makes it clear that to secure a conviction it is only necessary to prove that the victim was dishonestly deceived by one or more of the parties to the agreement into running an economic risk that he or she would not otherwise have run. There is no need for the victim ( ie the insurers )to actually sustain a loss.

Don't think people never get caught, within the last 4 or 5 weeks I dealt with exactly this sort of case. It was sent to the Crown Court for a judge to sentence it as magistrates powers have an upper limit of 6 months custody. Which is not enough for this sort of offence.

If the car was registered in your name, which it should be as you admit it is yours, you could name your mother as a driver to reduce the cost. That is when who will drive most is important. The way you have done it is unlawful from the start so who drives most is not really relevant.
