Ive just had my renewel quote in from MoreThan on the Tjet, and despite apparently getting 2 months free, and obviously have a further 1 years ncb my insurance has gone up by about £9 from last year.

Has anyone else noticed this as a trend (maybe due to the economic state) or are they just hoping that i wont notice and be able to scam me out of more money

I'll freely admit I've not been driving long, so could be wrong, but I thought renewal prices were always more expensive regardless of NCB etc? The insurance company bank on people being too lazy to shop around for a better deal ...
So, shop around for a better deal, go back to MoreThan with your lowest quote and tell them you're cancelling unless they can better it ;)

The thing most people believe or think they should have is insurance that goes down year after year. If it did sooner or later we'd all have free insurance.

I had a friend who had prices like: 1st year £1500, 2nd year £800, 3rd year £600, 4th year £350, 5th year £295. After his 5th year he called up claiming he should be getting another £250+ off his renewal price as he had on the previous years after another year with no claims. The insurance company said they couldn't insure him for £100 and he cancelled and said he'd get cheaper elsewhere. He had to return a few days later with his tail between his legs after getting prices of £350+ elsewhere.

Yes when you start out in driving you pay big sums and it reduces as you build up experience. But there comes a point where it balances out and yes you can start to pay more each year from the previous. It's only down to economic growth and inflation and the general trend that prices increase over the years etc.

It's worth shopping around everytime you're due to renew and find the best price for what you need. Always remember to make sure any price you get includes everything your current insurer provides. Some of these compare websites prices seem low but leave out small things like courtesy cars or free windscreen cover or stereo cover up to £250 rather than £750 etc.

But there comes a time when prices balance out and all prices fall within a few pounds of each other and also can increase from year to year by small amounts.
