Purely out of interest...

You even been in an accident where someone else was at fault? How was it dealt with? Were you put under pressure not to go to a solicitor or accept a quick settlement without going to a doctor? Was it bad?

What insurance company was it?

I've heard stories about people being told to settle without a solicitor or doctor's advice.

Was in accident in Dec 05, in a stationery line of traffic and a numpty in an old tank style merc ran in to the back of me at 40mph...

Insurance was with Churchill, who passed the details on to a law firm/solicitors within a few days and we heard from them directly. I had whiplash down my neck and back. Had a courtesy car, but only for 3 weeks (car was written off) because once the decision was made that the car wasn't repairable, it was then our choice to get a new motor so the courtesy car was very promptly picked up. Courtesy car was through a company called HelpHire - dont ever use them!

The passenger got a cheque through within 8 months from the solicitor for injury. Drivers claim took over 2 years because doctors references and some other problems which arose.

In general though, very pleased with how Churchill dealt with it, and the law firm.

Rammed by a Transit when stationary; his insurers wouldn't talk to me. So my insurance firm phoned his firm and got a claim number - after this they'd talk to me. He'd admitted liability at the scene so no problems; they paid the dealers for me directly.

He was with Zurich, I was with Quinn. The dealers arranged the hire car - only needed when mine was in getting a new arse as it was entirely driveable - and added it to the bill.

The biggest insurer here (Quinn) will pressure you to accept a sum for personal injury if theres even an indication you might be eligible for one, though.

Paper work "issues", us constantly calling them to chase up their errors on paperwork. We had 4/5 lots delivered by the time the car was taken back, and even by then some of the details were still wrong. It was a left-hand-doesnt-know-what-the-right-hand-is-doing scenario.

In Northern Ireland there is a company called Crash Services. If you ring them instead of your insurer they will assess your situation and as long as it was the thrid parties fault they will do everything for you. All you need to do is tell them what car you want as a replacement and what garage you want to do the repairs. They can even arrange for a depreciation payement and loss of earnings if applicable.
