Hey ive had my car for 6 months and have been modding it since i got it (punto mk2 1.2 8v) e.g the small stuff like tinting windows/rear lights, colour coded bumpers focus kit ect and til this moment i havent declaired any of the mods as some one told me with third party they dont cover your car anyway so it doesnt matter if you lose the money from the mods by crashing if you are willing to. The reason im asking about insurance is that im getting a new exhaust and lowering it next week and someone told me i had to declair these mods. I can understand that if you have fully comp and the insurers have to pay for it but does it matter with third party as their not paying for the damages to your car? im asking questions about insurance as im a new young driver and i dont know all the ins and outs and dont realy want to ring up loads of insurers.

Right ive got third party fire and theft insurance and if i was to crash into someone and they found out i hadnt declaired my mods does that mean the insurers wont pay out for the person i crashed into or they just wont cover the mods i damaged on my own car (which wouldnt count anyway as i have third party and tbh i dont mind not getting money for them as it was my choice to put them on?) also do small things like removeing the bumpstrips count under "must be declaired" mods?

Also im thinking if you were to buy a punto MIA that had sporting alloys on with the fiat logo with say 30mm lowered all round could any1 rele besides a fiat punto enthusiats tell there had been moddifcations? i mean how can someone be held liable for somthing they didnt know was a mod which was there before they bought it not realising and drinving around with them on?

Sorry for the long post and the comlicity of it all but if you catch my drift any help is appreciated. thanks:)

You have to declare all mods mate regardless of what they are. That includes lights, sideskirts, bumpers etc all the way to engine transplants. If you don't do this and have to claim your insurance could be void.

with quinn direct you only have to let them know about engine mods, not visual mods! i'm third party fire and theft and i called up to tell them of lights, wheels etc and they said not to worry about telling them of visual mods

Why bother declare everything. I wouldn't dare. When applying for insurance some companies even ask if you have stickers on your car! Up to you, depends if you want to gamble or pay the extra god knows how much

If you were to crash just say you never knew it was lowered ;)

Ignorence isn't bliss when it comes to the law you'd get done for insurance fraud / driving uninsured anyway. Its up to you if you say your car is "unmodified" to make sure it had/has none this can be easily confirmed by any Fiat Dealer / Specialist for a very minimal fee or free if you generate a friendly banter :).

do you not declare mods then?

come crash into me, i'd love to lose some money (y)

:nutter:

i'd do worse

I'd take them to court for every penny they and their family owned and were likely to earn in the future. I might overstate my injuries slightly and pretend to be destitute. Then sell my story to the gutter press and have them vilified in the eyes of their friends and family and everyone would know what an utter **** they were (y)

Well I wouldn't crash into you so your fine. Insurance is a joke anyway. Crashed 3times and had car broken into once and the insurance company know nothing.

How do you know?. If you were to crash into me could you afford £10,000+ if your insurance was voided and I were to take you to court?. I know insurance is expensive when your young but with damn good reason, but its still alot cheaper if you were to seriously injure someone.

The worry is that you live round the corner from me :bang:.

Ignorance is no excuse in law. It will state somewhere in your policy that it is your responsibility as the insurer to check that all modifications are declared and policy details are correct. Doesn't matter even if you "genuinely" didn't know it was lowered.

And.....

Public forum ----- with avatar pic inc VRM **07 FME --- I personally wouldn't advertise the fact that I was potentially driving and committing offences with no insurance and providing fraudulent information to my insurance company, you never know who's reading it! ;)
