I recently had a problem when fitting a Blaupunkt Daytona head unit into my MK2 Punto Sporting (see previous topic). After I had fitted it, electrical interference noise was coming out of rear speakers and sub.

I was advised to disconnect the blue, green and red connector from the back of the head unit. This solved the problem completely but I have since been told that this is the earthing connector.

By disconnecting this am I risking causing damage to the stereo and car electrics?

in short, yes.

I dont know much about Blaubunkt HU's but am pretty sure it will need grounding.

hi there

i just rread this post and someone allready told you about the connector. glad it worked.

now as for the earth i am 99.5% sure that what you have been told is WRONG. the earth for the stereo is in the bottom connector in the bottom corner nearest passenger side of car as you look at it from the front. from what i remeber its a thicker black wire???

now there is actually a earth/ground wire in that top block wich is prob why you were told what you were told. but that is for sum other function. i did find out once but cant remember for sure. ooh hang on.... look in the manual for your daytona stereo in back of it is wiring diagrams. them extra blocks are a blaupunkt thing.

been using mine for few months now think 3 and has been perfectly fine.

just a question does you steroe turn off when you turn ignition off???

Cheers mate.

Yep you are right, I checked the Daytona manual and the 3rd connector isn't for earthing.

Oh and no my stereo doesn't turn off when I turn the ignition off, but to be honest I prefer it like that. It'd be nice if it turned on when I turn the ignition on tho!

Is the rest of your set-up standard? I'm really pleased with the Daytona's performance but I'm considering changing the 4 main speakers in the future. I just feel they aren't too hot bass wise.

yeah rest of my system is standard, i have also thought about changing the speakers but havent done so yet. sounds alot better with new head unit than the origional fiat one.

yeah my stereo turns off with ignition and then on when you turn it on. I had to change 2 wires at the back the live and the switchable live as fiat have them in opposite places to the daytona. that was the other thing i done when i was trying to sort out that horendous noise. i also disconnected one wire as, fiat had 2 lives for some reason and one of them connected up to the sup out pin on new stereo.
and at first i thought that was the problem but as i found out and you know, it was that multi colored block that caused the noise.

My original head unit was a tape player so I can't really compare it to my Daytona. I am very impressed by the sound quality from the Daytona tho.

I think I'll just live with having to turn it on and off myself rather than playing with the wiring. I'm just happy it's working fine now!

How are you finding the performance of the standard sporting sub? Unfortuantly mine has a tendancy to shake and I have to set the bass levels low at around -5 (I do tend to have the volume pretty high though!). This happened with the original head unit as well and I'm not sure whether it's the sub causing something in the rear of the car to shake or whether there is something wrong with the sub itself.

well i find the original punto sub to be ok, mine does not rattle at all and have my bass on 0 and on rock setting and have my volume on anything between 40-45 average. i have turned the vase up more and its been ok. have you checkd to see if the sub is securly fiteed maybe its come lose? only thing i find is that it lacks the punch of the bigger subs but that is to be expected due to size.

After I brought the car I discovered the Sub was loose so I took it back to the gargage and they secured it properly. It hasn't fixed the problem completely tho.

I've also tried removing the parcel shelf to see if it is the cause of the rattle, but if anything when I did this it sounded worse.

I tend to have the volume over 55 (!), but the rattling does occur at much lower volumes.

55 [:0] thats pretty loud but have had it there before lol

check the rear speaker above the sub make sure that aint lose and making ratling noise. also make sure nothing loose wer the spare is kept maybe sumthing rattling in there. other wise hmmm not sure what to suggest loose sub was my first guess but you sorted it. just make sure it is still tighled sealed down.
