roight one for the ice meisters.

at the mo i have 10" JBL sub in the boot and JBL 6x9's in an MDF rear shelf running of a JBL 4 channel amp. i have clarion 10cm's up front running of a kenwood mask HU (4x40w) up front in the standard cinq placement.

ive got some kicker 10cm component mids n tweeters coming. wont be fitting them straight away as i need to buy a mono amp for the sub so i can use the 4 channel for the 6x9's and components. or do i?

ive seen posts that on the cinqs small boot the 6x9's work against the sub so shelf mount isnt really recommended.

so should i move the 6x9's into the rear seat side panels in MDF mounts?
or ditch the 6x9's altogether?

with the components do i mount the mids in the standard placement or build an extension to the door bin/pod and mount them there?

opinions appreciated :D

In the big ICE mags and from the afficiandos the supposed set up is to have comps up front and a sub in the rear FULL STOP, obviously ampped but thats what they say.

10cm's may not provide enough sound to follow that setup though.

Ditch the 6x9s custard.

I think 4 inch components will be good enough for mid range and high end, especially if properly amped. The bass is being catered for by the sub. IMO rear speakers are bad - mucks up the soundstage.
I'd put the mids in the standard locations and fit the tweeters to suit the best soundstage.

if you decide you need a monobloc amp, i got an Alpine MRP-M350 getting in my way on the bedroom floor, used for about 6 months, just under halfway, more than enough to power my sub (jbl gt3 10")

*shameless plug i know *

am just in from work :D

i could say im going to church , you might then think im an honest boy :p

i also have an infinity 4 channel and jbl gt3 10" sub taking up space in my bedroom, but i didnt want to shamelessly plug them ;)

EDIT - the answer to your question, ditch the 6x9's or fit a nice set of comps in the rear quarts, have them set to hpf on the amp, so the only bass is coming from the sub, same with the front ones, let the sub handle all the bass, that what they meant to do :D

right ive roughly installed the comps in the cinq.mids are in the sportings standard position and the tweeters are screwed onto the door panel near the front.
with just the comps and the sub running the front sounds sooooo much better but i do feel it needs a bit more oomph in the middle of the car as it sounds like all sound in the front with a sub thudding away in the boot :(

sooo it looks like i'll need to scrape some cash for speakers in the mid section. now if i bought the same set of comps as ive placed the front would i just be using the mid or using the tweeter as well? if i was using the tweeter where would a good position be for the rear tweeter? near the rear quarter panel or nearer the door pillar?

oh and gaz YGPM

edit:should add the plan is to build a door pod to hold the mid & tweeter.is the standard position of the mid better or will fitting it in the door be better?

just thought i would update. :)
well the kicker's give excellent sound quality,im very impressed. for anyone wanting to upgrade the fronts with something that will drop in the original mounts these are much better than coax replacements. well worth the extra premium.

decided im going to play around with the 6x9's in the rear shelf or rear quarters.if i feel like it i'll replace them with components when funds allow
