Hello out there. Can some give me some guidance as to how I can get rid of this message, so I can input the code (which I have)

Paul

Thanks for the reply. The thing is, it comes up with that as soon as I switch the unit on. I have read somewhere today that it is a security feature inbuilt into the units, but I hope I'm wrong. It won't let me enter any code into it

This is interesting..............
Most of the new fiat head units are paired the cambus [via the radio code],which the cambus knows, entering the code pairs the h/unit to the cambus and the h/unit powers up.
Has the h/unit been changed at some point?
Have you the correct code for the head unit?
Has this fault just happend out of the blue?
Just to clarify a cambus is the car computer, most of the cars electrics are controlled by it, all your switches, gauges, bulbs talk to the cambus, and any faults are brought up on your dash disply, ie when a door is open seat belt warning ect ect.
Let me know how you get on.

Thank you for your reply.

What has happened is that I bought a 2001 basic punto without a radio, I bought another fiat blaupunkt radio. The thing what I think it is, is the fact that the "basic" punto wiring will not allow a "subwoofer" type (I think it is out of a ELX model. That is the only conclusion I can draw from it

I'm pretty sure, that won't make any difference, it should still boot up, sub out is yellow molex connector on the back of your h/unit,in fact you can connect an amp to this as well as it is a pre out.
Have you the code for the h/unit?
If yes, this code needs inputting into the ecu--main dealer only.

From what I've read the 'CHECK' message comes up when the code has been entered incorrectly, and the time it takes for this message to disappear increases based on how many times the wrong code has been entered. It will only clear if the ignition is left on for the required amount of time (up to 24hrs), I know it sounds ridiculous but I'm 99% certain it's true.

It may be the correct code for the h/unit,but the code for the head unit must be the same as the one in the ecu.
A h/unit even with the correct code will not boot up if taken from another car unless the ecu as the same code, this has to be done by a dealer or someone who can hack in and change it.
Nb. This will only apply to cars with cambus.
