i have recently just bought a sub and amp for my GP, but, before replacing the head unit with my aftermarket one and the facia plate, what do i need to buy to allow my steering wheel controls to keep on working?

You will need a steering adaptor and corresonding adaptor for your HU. If your Hu is compatible with steering control.
I believe connects2 is the way forward in life for the GP.
