So a little while ago my cd player in the car died. (an aftermarket sony installed before I bought the car)

I connected it all up and seems to work fin, just strait unplug the old cd plaer and plug in the new one.

But on the old wiring there is a connection that is not on the new one.

(old connection) The yellow and red power cables have been cut and connected together.

Do I have to do this for my new cd player, as it all seems to work. Not been out for a drive with it connected yet but worked fine sitting there with the engine off.

Can cany one shed any light on it?

yes, it is right, the yellow and red cable are together, due to they need to connect to positive pole of power, red line is ACC, and yellow line is Batt+, hope this can help you.

ok, but do I need to do this the my new cd player? will it cause a problem if I dont connect it up with the yellow and red spliced together?
It all seems to work fine right now without it being connected up like that.

yes works fine and holds the memory, I was just worried incase it would flatten the battery.

thanks guys

It doesnt matter how you wire it. It will always have potential to draw power unless you splice into something that is ignition fed, so it comes on/off with the ignition.
