It is my 21st birthday in the first week of August. I have decided to replace the factory fitted speakers in my car and take advantage of the Alpine CDA-9812RB HU that i treated myself to for graduating.

I dont really know that much about the various different speaker brands that are available, and so need some advice.

I have a fiat punto mk2 5 door. I prefer clarity of sound compared to loudness, but occasionally do like to turn it up loud when i dont have my girlfriend in the car.

The back speakers dont really matter as i am going to use some of my brothers old kenwood speakers (just to fill the sound up) majority of sound will come from the front 16.5 cm (6 1/2") component speakers, I have been looking at some infinity ones and pioneer emotion components for the front.

I havent a clue what amp and what size subs to get (how many of them also) !

Type of music that is most often played is R&B if that is of any help.

Any suggestions / links would be very much appreciated.
:D:D

All depends on you budget mate, Kenwood Dualmags are also good, consider getting a set of components upfront rather than speakers this'll sound much better.

Sub wise you could go for a single 10" DB Audio Raptor, these are very good for the money (around £80) and have been reviewed by Fast Car as being better than Rocky Fosgate, Kenwood, Alpine, JL Audio etc, i have 2 12"'s and are very good :D

You want a 4 channel amp to power the components and the single sub, yet again all depends on your price range.
Look at www.bassjunkies.com for some inspiration!

Hope this helps

Ill have another look at bass junkies in the morning, too many categories to go through in one go.

I would imagine that anything up to £500 (for components and amp + sub) would be my budget, obviously i would like a good deal.

Thanks for the quick reply, and more opinions welcome !

Good news, I bought some infinity speakers (components) for the front, still got to get the sub and amps. Luckily my friends sister works at a car dealership and can get me practically any sub + amp at 1/3 of rrp :D

Looks like im having more ice than i previously thought !

[:0]lucky bu**er! (no not butter!)
Yeah i'd agree with centoevo, go for a nice 4-channel, 2 channels to run the components and 2 channels briddged to run the sub.
I'd pick a nice amp that suits your front speakers (power wise) and then search for a sub based on what you can power it with.
Happy huntin!:D

2.0 20v HGT + £2.5k of stereo + NOS (soon)

Well, ive decided not to have speakers in the back, out of preference.
In the front i will have infinity 6500 cs reference series components (270 w).

As i can get some stuff cheap now, im going for 2 x XS-L121P5 (sony pentagon 12" subs) and 2 x XM-2165GTX (sony 2 channel 1000w amp) to power the fronts and subs respectively.

I think i may need to invest in some sound deadening in the future as a result !
