I just got a Sony CDX-MP80 to replace the MD unit that recently got nicked (gah!). Trouble is, the motorised front panel hits the top of the air vents and the CD tray can't open! (99 Punto)
Is there some kind of adaptor that will allow the head unit to be mounted slightly forwards a bit more? This would also require a new facia adaptor, but I'm somehow doubting that Fiat make one like this!

:-(

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Does anyone know the answer to the above question?
I have the same problem.

In my case the Punto is not a 99'er.
The car is from 2001, which makes it a MK2

this is where a bit of modding ability will be needed. you will need to work out a way to bring the fascia forward so the HU is forward but still held by the cage.

if i was doing it i would get one of those fascia adapters(needed on all punto's i assume) and then use fibre glass/filler to bring the unit forward. taking your time to get a good finish is very important as its in an eye catching position.
could be sparayed body coloured or in a colour of your choice.

Actually, what I am looking for is a ready made aftermarket solution for this; e.g. an alternative for the standard fascia adapter from Fiat.

Thanks for the suggestion, anyway. (y)

nigh on impossible you will find this(and definatly not from fiat!) think about how few of these a company would sell versus development and production costs.
if you dont want to do the the work or pay an ice installer then sell/return the head unit for something with a normal faceplate

You used to be able to get a spacer for opel mantas which brought the radio forward about 2 inches, but i dont think theyre available any more. Dont know if 2 inches might be too much, but i guess you could probably modify it. Might be some on ebay?

Activematt; the HU being situatie above the vents is the whole problem.
The front of the HU flips down to give way to the very cool cd-tray to move out...

.
Cool huh?

Anyway...
Thank you all for thinking with me.
I think another HU is the only solution.
