Hi Guys and Girls,

just a quick one to get a few points of view on what I want to do. I have just upgraded my head unit to an Alpine CDE-9880R it works great, the ipod connection is amazing enabling really easy navigation however my issue now is the stock speakers in my Punto MK1 60 SX aren't exactley up to much so I was looking at replacing them with the following speakers:

Front Speakers: Alpine SXE-0825S
Rear Speakers: Alpine SXE-1025S

Does any one know how good these sound? or of another make thats not to expensive, I am looking for a 3inch (8cm) front speaker and a 4 inch (10cm) rear speaker to replace the originals in there standard fittings.

(I do intend to look into putting a set of 6X9's in a shelf which I am making along with an Amp but I have no Idea how to set an amp and a set of 6X9's up to my head unit.)

I'm really looking to only spend about £60 max on the speakers at the moment then another £100 - £120 on the 6X9's an Amp and everything i'll need to fit them.

Any Ideas and help would be great cheers

In my opinion you would be better saving up and getting a decent set of component speakers up front. Forget the rears and the 6x9s. If you want to amp anything amp the front speakers. I'm not familiar with your car and its speaker mountings but if you can a set of 6.5" in the front they will produce a much better sound with more bass.

I'm looking to upgrade mine too, I've been doing some looking and want to see if these could be suitable upgrades? For the front I've been looking at Pioneer TS-875's or JBL GTO328's, 8.7cms which I believe is the correct size, as for the back (which I believe are 10cms) then if I were to get the JBL's in the front I'd get their 428 counterparts in the back. I have zero knowledge if they're any good but they do fall into your price range on a couple of BuyItNows on Ye Olde eBay.

basically, in the MK1, unless uve got speaker pods then FORGET the front, you just cant get anything decent up front...ive tried...just go with unbalanced sound, its the best u can do...pair of 6x9's in shelf is good, cos the rear speakers are also to small to put anythign decent in. but dont get a sub at same time, ive seen 4 different 6x9's ripped appart by subs sharing same airspace, the ONLY combination ive seen thats ok, is the vibe QB69's and a sub, mainly cos there so brutally over engineeered they tend to cope....they are also inpressively loud, if you want to go OTT, you can make MDF parcel shelf, and box in the backs of the QB69's need about 0.5 CuFt, then you wont ever need a sub....there quite inpressive speakers....anything else please ask, ive done TONNNES of ICE in mk1 puntos, me and my mates al decided to buy em :p and loads of different setups....got a few pics of my old setup if your interested...(got a stilo 1.8 now, what an upgrade :D :D)

Theres space for 6.5' comps. It just a bit of work to build mounts to fit them.

u suuuure, if hes got mechanical windows, then there aint space....i tried...:p

i had mech ones then i ugraded to elec, and got the speaker pods, easiest way...look in scrappers....
Yes there is space for 6.5"/17cm components. I have them. :D
I had to buy a pair of mdf baffles and widen the hole for my speakers to fit.
If you don't want to use mdf baffles you could get those shallow mounting JBL components which I was going to go for, but apparently thety didn't have them in stock :(.
But yes. 6.5's do fit with some work.

Cheers for the info guys and girls,

I've got electric front windows so not sure what I can get wired into the door card without it looking silly or fitting.

Im going to change the original speakers anyway as mine are ripped and not exactley great so i figure any better speakers are going to sound a bit better for the moment and i found some Alpie e-bay bargins as for the rest they're going to have to wait til i've got some more money in my pocket.

So i'm looking for the following:

Front 6x5's or 6x9's: Any Recommendations and how would i go about fitting them. Think joe bloggs electrical idiot here please.

Amp: Any Recommendations, and how do i wire one to my HU etc

Rear: I'm currently building a rear MDF shelf so was thinking of putting a 10 or 12 inch sub in the middle of it but again have no idea what i need and how to go about wiring it in with possibly a 2nd amp if i need one.

I'm a noob too so I can't really help with what to reccommend.
But for reference. I also have electric windows and everything fits in perfect with lots of room for deadening

Any help is a bonus basically

Because I didn't realise what tweeters did when I installed them. I thought they just regulated the sound from my Sub and my comps and didn't have any sound coming out from them. Don't ask, I had no idea. LOL
It's only till I played them, sound actually came out.
I was thinking of leaving them in as dummys and just buying 2 more and installing them up front somewhere. Can you buy them seperatley?

And what do you mean by Focals? If that's the make, they aren't. They are in-phase and cost £110. They sound great with my alpine HU. I just regret having the tweet behind me. It sounds really weird so yeh, need to move them!

If you are going to have a set of fake tweets. I would just buy some cheapy ones and put them in the hole you cut for these ones. That way you can keep the matched pair working :) - Everyone in ICE makes n00b mistakes, lol. Part of the learning curve and at least yours didnt blow up equip or set the car on fire!!

You can buy tweets seperate or even second hand. I have a set of Altec lansing ones with better x-overs than the inphase poo if you were interested. They are more SQ orientated and i dont have a clue how much they are worth perhaps Paul can give me a PM with a guide price if he see this.
