i have a mk1 punto with good quality tweeters in the front (VW polo ones) and 300W infinity 6x9s in the boot, under a stealth shelf.
these are directly hooked up to the HU, a kenwood mp3 unit with 4x45W out.
now when this was all put in (new HU, 2nd hand speakers) the sound was fantastic - high definition, car-shaking sound. but a few months down the line, the sound quality seems to be as good, but at the same volume settings the bass really sucks, no matter how i adjust the HU.
given that i never turned the volume up to the max (level 24 out of i think 30) is it the head unit thats knackered? the 6x9s look fine.
please help!
Matthew

Maybe like me you got used to it?

sometimes my mates comment on how good my system is but I seem to find its not half as good as it was since I bought it. I went away for a week in my girlfriends car and when I got home the system sounded better than ever.

It seems I just got used to its sound so it didn't WOW me anymore. Might be the same thing(y)

well, its not that i have got used to it, cos i very rarely listen to music full-on. but it used to literally shake the car with the bass.

neither have the speakers worked loose.

so it may be the speakers are knackered? how would i check this?

thanks guys

Push the cone of the speaker from the back, and move it up and down a bit...
Wouldn't usually recommened anything like this but my 6x9's sounded a bit fecked and i did the afformentioned and it worked a treat. (y)

Push the cones down gently - see if you can hear scratching.

Mine scratched. Went away after pushing em gently a few times tho. Not quite sure how that works but heh.

If they scratch when you push them it means the coils have gone and they need replacing
