The check strap is a metal strap between the door and the body that stops the door from opening too far.

Mine broke the other day when the wind caught the door and made a big bang. I’ve put a guide together to show how easy it is to replace. I got a new one from the fiat dealer in Northampton for about £30.

Taking the door panel off

First you need to take off the door panel to get to the back of the check strap which is be hide the speaker.

You need to take on the casing which holds the tweeter speaker in. I just used a flat bladed screw driver and prised it off.

Then to take the actual door panel off you need to have a Phillips and flat bladed screwdrivers and a 5mm allen key.

Get a flat bladed screwdriver behind the door light, push it off and disconnect the wire.

Now take the flat bladed and prise the unit which has the window buttons and you will see a bolt underneath. I then managed to push the whole unit through the hole just to get it out of the way.
